HEAD START

The Program Assistant Mental Health provides administrative support for implementation of a health services programs for families and children. This position provides collaborative planning in conjunction with other support groups and agencies in meeting needs of families.

JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

The Program Assistant Mental Health provides administrative support for implementation of a health services programs for families and children. This position provides collaborative planning in conjunction with other support groups and agencies in meeting needs of families.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in promoting parent advocacy such as providing needed referrals and linkages to the community supports
  • Assist with accurate and timely record keeping.
  • Effective management of cases, such as providing referrals to appropriate counselling services for families who demonstrate intense clinical needs.
  • Consult with Mental Health Manager on a regular basis on all referrals submitted to the mental health department and complete accurate documentation of consultation;
  • Assist in planning and implementing parent and program activities
  • Participate in meetings relevant to area assigned to such as but not limited to IEP’s, Family Advocate meetings, Community meetings, Site Supervisor meetings, regular Mental Health team meetings, and Center Committee meetings
  • Must use computerized data system to input, retrieve and update required data.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
  • Valid California driver’s license and access to dependable automobile with adequate insurance in order to make home visits and/or to travel to different school and office sites

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proof at the time of hireTB clearance within 6 months prior

Annual Influenza vaccination (between Aug 1 – Dec 1)
Pertussis (whooping cough) and measles immunization

  • Health screening within 6 month prior to hire date
  • Requires ability to interact with children in a busy environment including, but not limited to:Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Frequently kneel and squat
Ability to move quickly

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in social work, case management in health, disabilities, mental health or parent involvement. (Associate of Arts degree in Social Services or related field can be used in place of the 2 years of experience)

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of Early Head Start/Head Start program

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

  • Excellent computer skills including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing in English
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflict, including dealing with un-cooperative clients.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, with or without reasonable accommodation, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
