Aloha! We are seeking (4) full-time Program Assistants to join our team of (5) to support our Residential Life team! The right person will have a passion for working with students (7th-12th grade), enthusiasm for creating and participating in engaging programs and activities with students, and always having student safety in mind. Hours range between Monday - Friday 3:30pm-9:30pm/10:00pm, and one weekend day a week.
Job Summary:
Integral part of the Residential Life team to enhance student learning through meaningful engagement. Provides programmatic support to aid in the implementation of single dorm and program-wide engagement activities. Is responsible to help maintain a safe learning environment for students during engagement activities. Prepares and creates instructional materials by performing a variety of functions, assists with implementation of activities and execution of logistics, substitutes during emergency absences, and transports students to activities on and off campus as needed.
Essential Responsibilities:
Student Safety
  • Promotes student safety by completing job training and knowing KS policies especially those pertaining to student activities.
  • Helps to maintain a safe learning environment by being able to follow approved logistics and through situational awareness and effective communication.
  • Helps supervise students during engagement activities to maintain student accountability and behavior.
  • Substitute as Residential Life Advisor during emergency absences.
Student Engagement and Learning
  • Assist in event planning, maintaining different computer based staff resources, and by performing a variety of administrative functions for the department or within the dormitory.
  • Will serve as a guide and role model to promote meaningful learning by interacting with students to foster meaningful engagement and appropriate relationships.
  • Supports the implementation of small/large group activities and events as requested or assigned by ensuring materials, equipment, facilities, manpower and other required logistics are identified, reviewed and prepared.
  • Assists with the Residential Life student council to guide the development of leadership skills.
  • Provides student transportation in approved school vehicles for on and off campus needs.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • HIDOT Minibus certification or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire.
  • Able to implement logistics to meet program needs and deliver engagement activities as directed by the Dean of Student Leadership and Engagement for small and large groups of students.
  • Ability to effectively support the management and supervision of a large number of students and monitor their safety in diverse environments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the development and behavior of applicable (7-12) age children.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and vendors.
  • Good organizational skills to manage tasks and time efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of common computer based applications, such as those from Google and Microsoft.
  • Flexibility to adapt to change to meet program needs; may require flexible work hours.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with students and staff; must work efficiently in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Hawaiian culture-based education.
  • Experience with implementation and support of student engagement.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture.
  • Experience with project development and implementation.
  • Skilled in problem identification, reasoning and problem solving that represents the best interest of Kamehameha Schools, the Residential Life department, and students.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently sits, performs desk-based computer tasks and tasks requiring light or fine manual dexterity.
  • Frequently communicates verbally, electronically, and in writing with stakeholders, including the ability to clearly see, hear and speak to aid in the conversation.
  • Frequently stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs throughout the buildings and around campus.
  • Frequently twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
  • Ability to lift, move, position, and/or transport 30 pounds.
Working Conditions
  • Work is conducted in a residential life setting in a variety of environments such as dormitories, recreation areas, and locations on and off campus. Work is typically conducted in the evening and weekend hours to meet goals and objectives.
