This Special Projects position will act as the program coordinator for TCTX Thrive, Travis County’s small business relief program and is funded by grant funds through December 31, 2024.
This position works as part of a small team focused on economic development, strategic planning and facilities planning. It is a professional position in Travis County's Economic Development and Strategic Investments Division of the Planning and Budget Office. This division provides an array of professional services to the County to promote informed decision-making, providing project management and support for county economic development, real estate portfolio management, site redevelopment, and capital planning and investments. The goals of the division are to promote the efficient use of public resources and create long-term value to Travis County through collaboration and innovation.
The position will support the TCTX Thrive Grant Administrator, assisting with the grant review process, program invoicing, and the appeals process. The position will assist in coordinating the grants process, including grant seeking, writing, reporting, program planning, research, and needs assessments. Serves on committees, develops resources and serves as a contact between divisions and departments involved in grant processing. Coordinates services and participates in the development of policies and procedures. May assist in the development of short- and long-term plans.
This position is eligible for telework, with in-office work as necessary.
Hybrid workplace plans are available, if requested, with a physical workspace from a central office location as assigned (700 Lavaca). MUST LIVE IN or NEAR AUSTIN TX AREA.
- Assists in coordinating federal grant through written proposals and reports, budget control, reporting and formal/informal correspondence.
- Assists in coordinating programs, monitoring program issues, and program planning and strategies.
- Collaborates with government agencies, private sector organizations, and citizens.
- Works to support program goals and accomplishes program directives. Solicits and schedules presentations and meetings.
- Supports the research and development for potential funding sources. Serves as a contact for the division for grant proposals and contracts.
- Assists in moving grant proposals through County processes, including agenda requests, approval, award, acceptance and submission.
- Facilitates development and implementation of grant activities, including reporting and audit requirements and compliance regulations. Ensures timely reporting on program performance.
- Assists in developing new processes and enhancing existing efforts to achieve divisional goals. Analyzes, evaluates and presents data. Maintains databases and prepares written reports.
- Attends task force and committee meetings.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Technical Writing, Program/Project Management, Social Sciences, Psychology, Criminal Justice or a directly related field AND one (1) year to three (3) years experience in reviewing and analyzing financial, accounting records and grants experience, or communications work experience, or social work/casework experience;

Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 20-50 pounds occasionally, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment. Subject to standing, walking, carrying, sitting, repetitive motion, reaching, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, balancing, client/customer contact, squatting to perform the essential functions.

Holidays

Longevity pay is paid for each year completed after three years of continuous service. Peace Officers in a law enforcement activity, whose job requires state peace officer certification, receive pay after one year of certification.
Parking
A limited number of assigned parking spaces are available to employees in the Courthouse Complex.
Personal Holidays
Regular, full-time employees are eligible for up to three paid personal holidays each calendar year. Part-time employees shall be granted personal holidays on a prorated basis. New employees earn personal holidays for the calendar year in which he/she begins employment, based on the month in which employment begins:
New employees are eligible to take personal holidays after 90 days of employment.
Retirement
Travis County is a member of the Texas County & District Retirement System with mandatory participation by certain classes of employees. Seven percent (7%) of the gross salary is deducted each pay period. An employee is fully vested after eight years of service. Benefits are prorated for part-time employees.
Sick Leave
Regular employees earn sick leave at a rate of eight hours per month with unlimited accrual during employment. Part-time employees earn sick leave on a pro-rated basis.
Tuition Refund
Certain classes of full-time employees may receive reimbursement for fees associated with pre-approved, job related course work completed satisfactorily.

Based on years of county service, regular, full-time employees earn vacation time at the following rates:
