The Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences (FBNS) is a team of scientists, researchers, and teachers committed to guiding the undergraduate and graduate education of students preparing for professional and technical careers in Food, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition Sciences.

As a department, FBNS identifies, develops, and applies the appropriate concepts, theories. and emerging methodologies from the fundamental disciplines of chemistry, engineering, microbiology, food and bioprocessing. nutrition, and sensory science, to the investigation of critical issues in food & biological systems, components, products, and processes. FBNS also interprets, adapts and extends research information to the North Carolina, national, and international food and bioprocessing industries to maintain and improve the safety, variety, and quality of food and biological products.

Essential Job Duties
The Department of Food, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition Sciences seeks applications from highly qualified professionals for the position of Program Coordinator to serve as the liaison to industry, alumni, and other stakeholders of the department. The successful candidate is expected to be the point person for communication with key individuals in food, bioprocessing, nutrition, and related companies throughout the state, region, and nation to develop and maintain interaction between alumni, industry, and the department’s research, academic, and extension programs and service centers. The incumbent will also be expected to actively engage with undergraduate and graduate students interested in obtaining internships and employment in companies that have developed a connection with the department. Applicants must have excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage and grow the FBNS Industry Partners Advisory Council (IPAC)
  • Coordinate science and business activities and events between FBNS personnel and IPAC
  • Identify internships and full-time jobs for FBNS students
  • Help CALS advancement team and partnering companies to establish new scholarships
  • Maintain internship, job, and scholarship databases on the FBNS website and coordinate with CALS Career Services
  • Organize yearly networking events for FBNS alumni and companies to showcase FBNS research and extension capabilities
  • Coordinate the updates and distribution of marketing materials for FBNS and its research, academic, and extension capabilities, including promotional videos of faculty, staff, students, and alumni
  • Curate FBNS social media accounts and manage social media communications using current tools
  • Manage industry and alumni contact lists
  • Identify and provide contacts to CALS Communications to create digital posts and print material for annual FBNS Digest
  • Provide alumni and IPAC information for the FBNS website to the website committee/coordinator
  • Attend Food Science Club meetings that host industry and alumni representatives to enhance
    communication
  • Assist the Food Science Club’s coordination with scholarship donors for participation in the annual FBNS Awards Banquet
  • Assist with coordination of FBNS stakeholder breakfast at the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) annual meeting
  • Assist with coordination of FBNS booth/table at professional meetings for Food/Bioprocessing/Nutrition Science
  • Coordinate industry/alumni events with the student clubs and regional Dogwood IFT organization

Other Responsibilities
  • Participate in opportunities to become familiar with the research, academic, and extension capabilities in the department
  • Provide Service to the department, college, university, and scientific community-at-large
  • Some overnight and local travel is required

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
A relevant baccalaureate degree and two or more years of work experience is required.
A master’s degree in a relevant area may substitute for work experience.
Relevant degree and work experience can include food science, bioprocessing science, nutrition science, business, communication, marketing, or a closely related field.

  • A relevant baccalaureate degree and two or more years of work experience are required.
  • Ability to manage several projects at one time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with various audiences
  • Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with office administration and client/stakeholder communications
  • Some business development experience preferred

A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
