Position Highlights

The School of Landscape Architecture and Planning is in search of a Program Coordinator (Res Program Admin Officer I), Southwest Urban Integrated Field Laboratory (SW-IFL). The program coordinator will assist the University of Arizona (UA) lead institutional investigator in a variety of operational and administrative activities for the SW-IFL, a multi-institution climate change research program funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. Activities are focused on providing operational support for the UA SW-IFL research team including: coordination of research and community engagement efforts across the Arizona Urban Sun Corridor; coordinating communications and public outreach efforts; planning program events, symposia, and training sessions; collecting, synthesizing, and reporting project updates and achievements. This position will work closely with the UA SW-IFL lead institutional investigator, UA SW-IFL interdisciplinary research team, SW-IFL institutional partners, and program funder.

The Southwest Urban Integrated Field Laboratory (SW-IFL) is a multi-institution Urban Integrated Field Laboratories program funded by the U.S. Department of Energy to advance urban systems science through an integrated framework of observations, modeling, and resilience. The SW-IFL is focused on the Arizona Urban Sun Corridor, stretching from the Mexican Border to the south, through the Tucson and Phoenix metropolitan regions, to Flagstaff and the Navajo (Diné) Nation to the north. Institutional partners include Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Urban IFL program serves as an important element of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science’s commitment to the “Justice 40” initiative, which prioritizes investment in diverse and underrepresented communities affected by a changing climate.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work with the lead institutional investigator and researchers on the SW-IFL team, and help coordinate research and community engagement efforts across the Arizona Urban Sun Corridor.
  • Collect and analyze information monthly and annually from researchers about progress toward research objectives.
  • Coordinate and develop external SW-IFL communications.
  • Coordinate and develop internal communications for the SW-IFL team.
  • Communicate with other SW-IFL partner institutions, program funders, and similar research programs across the U.S.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience related to program administration is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with project management, such as scheduling, logistics, budgets and financials, annual reporting, and/or evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience developing science communication and outreach materials.
