Program Manager for Beyond Basics

Part Time, Seasonal, generally 35-40 hours per week during school year

Position Summary

Program Managers supervise the Reading tutors as they work with students Monday through Friday during school hours, or in after school programs. The Program Managers are responsible for ensuring the daily schedule is followed, all student documentation is completed, and students are meeting their objectives. They are the Beyond Basics lead presence at the site and should develop relationships and excellent communication with the school staff. They are also responsible for coordinating events and volunteers as scheduled by the Literacy Suite Manager. This position is supervised by the Literacy Suite Manager or Literacy, Curriculum, Training and Implementation Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Agrees to follow all items detailed in Program Managers Manual and work with the Office of Beyond Basics (OBB).
  • Responsible for managing, developing and maintaining positive relationships with Beyond Basics staff, school administration, school staff, volunteers and partners in assigned school.
  • Responsible to direct all day to day Beyond Basics Programs and Activities and ensure proper implementation and monitoring.
  • Direct involvement in the mentoring of tutors with other Beyond Basic Reading professionals.
  • Tutor students in the Tattum Reading Program per cycle.
  • Coordinate all programs with school administration and with individual teachers along with all other Beyond Basics employees.
  • Interface with school administration and Beyond Basics Executive Director.
  • Actively recruit volunteers for the all Beyond Basics programs.
  • Secure and maintain class lists and teacher names along with the names of all students participating in Beyond Basics? programs.
  • Secure school year calendars for the site and distribute to all Beyond Basics staff.
  • Manage and direct One-On-One Tutoring and Group Tutoring.
  • Must be on-site whenever Beyond Basics programs are running.
  • Maintain files, data and volunteer hours for all Beyond Basics programs.
  • Set up a distribution list of all volunteers, maintain weekly contact, and check files to see that tutors are coming in.
  • Monitoring weekly tutoring data and ensuring all data is enter by the assigned deadline
  • Work with the Outcome and Assessment Manager to secure testing times for all students in the reading tutoring program and make sure there are complete testing materials for initial, mid-cycle & final testing at assigned school.
  • Responsible for securing and maintaining CRF?s, taking pictures during tutor sessions and activities and graduation, and obtaining student success stories including comments during each cycle.
  • Ensuring that all timesheets are completed and tutor sessions have been documented. Approving tutor time sheets and placing in Dropbox under the school name by the Monday due date before payroll.

Work Environment

This position operates in a school environment. This role routinely uses documents and materials for tutoring in a classroom. Local travel to school is also required for position.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit and use hands as well as talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to focus on computer and documents. This position may require the ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs., and stand for long periods of time.
