Job Description:
Major Purpose:
- Responsible for the successful delivery of smaller strategic or larger tactical projects which are generally of moderate complexity.
- Utilizes and provides project management expertise to direct, with personal involvement, work assignments involving the work teams.
- Establishes priorities and gathers the resources necessary to staff any team leaders as well as the work teams.
- Directs, with personal involvement, the design of major components involved in the project.
- Directs, with personal involvement, the technology to be deployed on project; sometimes introducing new technology. Integrates and coordinates with user groups, business management, or I.T. management.
Projects meet some or all of the following criteria:
- 6 to 12 persons on the project team; 3 to 6 disciplines involved; multiple facilities within Division are involved; scope in dollars is $500,000 to $5,000,000 and is determined on budget, revenues generated, savings, etc.)
Major Duties:
Ensures project quality by adhering to standards in development, testing and, quality methodologies assuring integration with other systems.
- Develops, tracks, and meets the capital and expense budget, generally at the project level.
- Provides day to day work direction and assistance to a group of professional staff, primarily in the context of work needed against project plans.
- Determines resources needed to assure successful completion of project and secures resources from others (project leader/champion, process owner, division leader, etc.).
- Assists in coaching and developing team members. Provides performance input to team members' managers.
- Monitors ongoing project status and maintains communication with business partners or stakeholders regarding the project status.
- Nature of projects requires significant communications outside the immediate project team.
- Looks for process improvement and process definition opportunities and leads others in adhering to existing processes and contributing to their improvement.
- Participates in the project planning process of new products/services and/or major improvements to existing products/services.
- Develops the project plan and leads the project team in executing that plan.
- Applies a solid foundation in project management and executing that plan.
- Applies sophisticated project management discipline and experience.
- Project plan developed by focusing on project definition, scope, business requirements, cost, completion dates, resource allocation, and quality/reliability.
- Uses sophisticated risk management, communication strategies, etc. as part of managing to the success of projects.
- Builds project management skills in others.
- Contributes generally heavily to the technical decisions of the team. If not, gets the right technical talent applied.
- Assists in resolution of difficult technical issues whether within the company or with outside suppliers.
- Frequently is also responsible for establishing the overall technical direction for projects.
Skills, Abilities, Knowledge:
- Understanding of applications development environment, database, data management and infrastructure capabilities and constraints.
- Understanding of activities, their sequence and measurement, and the ability to facilitate implementation of process and participate in process.
- Skill in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
- Business process knowledge of assigned area(s) and/or function(s).
- Understanding of computer technology, methodology, and full life-cycle development.
Education:
- Degree in an Information Technology discipline or equivalent experience. - University Degree (4 years or equivalent)
Work Experience:
- Experience implementing major Information Technology programs or projects that are broad in scope or multi-unit/cross divisional. (4 - 7 years)
- Information technology experience and/or business experience. (4 - 7 years)
- Experience in Project management and business planning. (Small Projects)
- Project management experience including plan development, budget management, team management, requirements gathering, delivery and deployment. (1 - 3 years)
Specific Position Requirements
- Highly effective communication skills and successful experience working with multiple software teams on complex projects is required.
- Formal development experience is not required, but high technical aptitude is desired.
- Must be able to understand technical requirements and translate them to business needs.
- Experience working with and across multiple agile teams and engineers required.
- Rally experience a plus.
