Northern Star (Pogo) LLC has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Project Manager (Underground Operations), at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a 15 day on, 13 day off rotational camp schedule.

What's the role?

The Project Manager reports to the Operations Manager. The primary role is to ensure safe production through the optimisation of safety, manpower, systems and equipment to deliver Northern Star Mining Services (NSMS) business strategy and budgets.

Duties include:

  • Develop a culture of high performance and behaviours that are consistent with agreed values
  • Build and mentor the mining team ensuring performance objectives and measures are developed and assessed with focus on high technical standards and continuous improvement.
  • Adequately resource the operations in consultation with mine management to ensure project plans are achieved.
  • Monitor and manage key performance indicators for NSMS division to drive productivity performance.
  • Ensure ore is mined efficiently to planned targets.
  • Maintain a safe and reliable fleet to deliver business objectives.
  • Develop and adhere to annual budgets in line with corporate strategy.
  • Review, monitor and approve operating expenses for division.
  • Complete project work and presentations to a professional standard as and when required.
  • Communicate the business objectives with the operations team to ensure all activities are focused on agreed outcomes.
  • Ensure all safety related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA requirements including Hazard ID's, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting.

The specifics:

  • Underground mining contract management experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of mining technology and heavy production equipment.
  • Good leadership and communication skills across all levels of business.
  • Ability to prepare reports and good analytical skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and organisational skills.
  • Experience in auditing, incident investigation and reporting.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Experience in the practical application of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.


The Details:

Working 15 days on, 13 days off schedule of days, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
