Position: Proposal Writer
Location: Burlington, MA
Clearance: Secret preferred
Education: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred)
Outcomes: The successful candidate is expected to accomplish the following outcomes in the first year on the position:
- Successfully support proposal writing projects through all phases and submission.
- Master Gemini's standard operating procedures and become an expert in past performance and corporate experience write-ups.
Responsibilities:
The Proposal Writer reports to the Proposal Manager. This position will provide technical proposal writing services primarily for government contracts. The Proposal Writer is adept at reading and understanding government technical requirements and leads the development of an effective storyline that clearly and concisely presents our company's solution, including strengths, differentiators, and value propositions. The candidate will develop the solution by leveraging the context of customer insights provided by the capture manager and the solutions defined by subject matter experts (SMEs) and solutions teams. The candidate will also provide writing services for corporate case studies and marketing materials. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Writing federal government proposals and for many different agencies e.g., DOD and Federal civilian.
- Shredding RFPs/RFIs to develop compliance matrices and compliant outlines.
- Collaborates with and interviews SMEs to translate concepts into compelling written material and conducts interviews with SMEs/SAs to translate solution ideas into colloquial terms in the written response, including defining and using graphics effectively to support written text.
- Works closely with the proposal manager, and SMEs to ensure the development of high-quality content for each proposal that accurately reflects the work being performed.
- Completes assigned proposal sections on time with few rewrites.
- Provides detailed editing in support of already developed sections.
- Creates/draws initial wireframe graphs, charts, and other visual aids for insertion into technical proposals. Works with a graphic artist to proof final graphics and visual content.
- Supports proposal operations by participating in proposal kick-offs and reviews.
Qualifications:
The candidate must have the following qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the proposal writing with at least 3 of those years managing and/or coordinating full proposals thru submission.
- Experience writing complex service proposals valued between 250K and $100 million.
- Demonstrated writing capability and willingness to share a writing sample.
- Proven ability to conceptualize and write compelling, customer-focused proposal narrative and oral presentation slides.
- Understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office business applications such as Adobe Acrobat Suite, and SharePoint.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.
The following are desired:
- Understanding of federal acquisition, procurement processes, and current acquisition trends.
- Demonstrated bid and proposal experience, either through technical proposal writing (as lead writer and/or through formal business development and capture.
- Ability to fully comprehend federal solicitation documents, RFP Section L/M, Statements of Work and Performance Work Statements, and cost/pricing requirements.
- Experience with the Shipley Proposal Process or other industry-relevant capture and proposal methodologies.
- Working knowledge of GovWin, GovTribe, or similar market intelligence/capture management software tools.
- Experience writing complex service proposals. Understanding requests for proposals and requests for information and sourcing sought and government procurement.
- Thorough understanding of the Federal Acquisition Life Cycle.
- Secret Clearance.
Travel: Occasional travel is required to our Gemini facilities in Tampa, FL and the National Capital Region.
