Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute is a 207-bed state psychiatric hospital which serves acute, extended, and forensic care patients.
Under nursing supervision, Psychiatric Technicians at MTMHI provide direct care to patients in Short Term and/or Extended Care Programs; as well as for patients who have been diagnosed with a mental illness and have forensic charges. These patients are assigned to Forensic Care Programs at MTMHI.
Responsibilities of this position include providing daily living care for patients such as bathing and personal hygiene; assisting with dressing (clothes); and, feeding. Psychiatric Technicians must have the ability to move, lift, and/or transfer patients using sliding boards, wheel chairs, or other required equipment; as well as provide supervised medical assistance, such as, but not limited to, obtaining vital signs and weights of patients. Psychiatric Technicians escort patients to appointments; and, they provide individualized teaching and lead activities for patients. This individual is required to make rounds according to policy and procedure to account for each assigned patient; provide verbal de-escalation of agitated patients; and, perform CPR and other emergency responses and techniques when necessary. Psychiatric Technicians must be able to lift 30 – 50 lbs. and perform repetitive tasks consisting of bending, stooping, standing and walking.
STANDARD SHIFTS ARE:
12.5 hour shifts - 3 - 4 Days/ Nights Per Week
· 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. (Days)
· 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 a.m. (Nights) - Additional Pay for Night Shift Work and/or Work Assignments on our Forensics Services Program Units!
· Applicants who possess a college degree and/or are Certified by the State of TN as a CNA are eligible upon hire to receive additional pay.

Required Education:
· Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent.
Necessary special Qualifications:
· A valid motor vehicle operator license may be required.
· All necessary training will be provided on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Mental Health and/or Corrections/Law Enforcement experience
