POSITION TITLE: Psychiatrist

CGS Child/Adolescent Outpatient Mental Health Clinic

REPORTS TO: Director of Clinical Services & Strategic Initiatives

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

The psychiatrist provides psychiatric and medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment; evaluating medical and psychosocial conditions; developing, implementing, and approving treatment plans; including prescription of psychotropic medications; monitoring and evaluating treatment results.

The psychiatrist is also a member of the interdisciplinary team and may assist in the clinical supervision, education, and training of the team; and development, maintenance, and supervision of medication as applicable.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conducts psychiatric assessments in accordance with most current APA DSM adherence; by interviewing consumer, family, and other persons as applicable. All assessments are expected to include psychiatric history, course of illness, responses to treatment, mental status examination, and diagnosis.
• Develops treatment plans by determining nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders; establishing treatment goals and methodologies.
• Treats consumers by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress toward goals with consumers; providing instructions; monitoring effect of medications; supervising staff provision of services.
• Provides on-site crisis assessment and management of consumers during regular work hours, both on-site and over the phone; during other hours, as on-call backup.
• Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing and approving treatment plans and progress; consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers as applicable.
• Assures quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations requirements, and legal regulations; participating in utilization reviews; remaining available for emergency consultations.
• Improves staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues.
• Maintains historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events; writing summaries.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in continuing medical educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
• Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. QUALIFICATIONS:

• M.D. or D.O.
• Licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York; Board Certified in Psychiatry, Certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry preferred
• Knowledge of the Child Welfare System is desirable
• Two years professional experience with emphasis on diagnostics and a team approach preferred
• Ability to work some evening and weekend hours, including on-call consultation

• Outstanding writing and communication skills
• Proficiency in Spanish preferred
