Job description
This position will facilitate and oversee the educational welfare of the program's residents through knowledge of the policies and practices with respect to graduate medical education, the ACGME's "Institutional Requirements" and RRC's "Program Requirements. The Residency Program Director will be responsible for authority and accountability for the overall operation of the program. This position requires Board Certification in Psychiatry and preferred experience serving as Faculty or Associate Program Director.
Essential Accountabilities:
  • Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Assemble and oversee the Program Education Committee to assist in the administration and conduct of all program elements.
  • Serve as an advocate for resident and program needs
  • Oversee the development of educational goals and objectives of the program with respect to knowledge, skills and attributes for residents at each level of training and for each major rotation or other program assignment.
  • Oversee and ensure the quality of didactic and clinical education for all program sites.
  • Develop Personal educational achievement plans in conjunction with CCC and resident advisors
  • Ensure completion of program surveys by faculty and residents for ACGME and program specific evaluation.

  • Oversee and ensure an annual review of resident daytime and on-call duty hour policies and practices, making programmatic changes as necessary, to ensure complete compliance with current ACGME rules and regulations.
  • Adjust schedules as necessary to mitigate excessive service demands and/or fatigue. Monitor demands of at home call to ensure not excessive service demands. Monitor the need for and ensure provision of back up support system when patient care responsibilities unusually difficult or prolonged
  • Communicate and interact respectfully with the RRC (and ACGME when necessary) in all matters pertinent to program accreditation and residency education provision, including thoughtfully reviewing and commenting, when asked, on proposed "Program Requirements" revisions and other proposed RRC actions.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Required Education: M.D. or D.O.
Required License: Current M.D. license in North Carolina is required.
Preferred License: None
Required Experience:
Five or more years of demonstrated progressively responsible medical experience.
