IMMEDIATE OPENING for a Full-time Psychologist/Behavioral Health Consultant to support the Internal Medicine Department at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), MD.

SPECIFIC TASKS Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Complete patient assessment, evaluation and develop course of treatment with problems of personality, emotional adjustment, or mental illness.
  • Administer and interpret psychological tests which are used for diagnosing mental and personality disorders, and for differentiating between organic and functional causes of behavior disorders.
  • Perform psychotherapy with patients, either through individual sessions or through group therapy sessions.
  • Participate in a patient-care team which includes a physician, social worker, nurse, and others. This team determines the course and nature of a patient's psychotherapy treatment.
  • Provide educational, vocational and rehabilitation counseling of the physically or mentally handicapped or others in need of or seeking vocational guidance
  • Ensure compliance with standard of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment MTF and IAW JC guidelines.
  • May serve as preceptor for Psychologist preceptorship programs.
  • The Behavioral Health Consultant’s role will be limited to that of a consultant and shall provide primarily clinical services. The scope and responsibilities include targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem.
  • Determine the appropriateness of the patient receiving services in the primary care setting

Qualifications:

Degree/Education: Possess a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an accredited university.

Experience: A. Have experience as a Psychologist of at least 3 years within the preceding 36 months. B*. Possess knowledge of and skill in the uses of psychological assessment, psycho-diagnostic evaluations, and psychotherapy. C.* Possess specialized knowledge of evidence-based treatment for general behavioral health problems (e.g., depression and anxiety) and areas of behavioral medicine (e.g., chronic pain, obesity and sleep problems).

Licensure/Registration: Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license or certification to practice as a psychologist in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth or Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands
