Role Summary
The External Affairs Specialist is responsible for enabling Energy Storage STARS Initiatives (Sustainability, Advocacy, & Standards) and lithium site ESG/responsible sourcing assessments. The Specialist will foster partnerships for value-added engagement, growth initiatives, sustainability audits & certifications for sustainable lithium supply aligned with customer needs. They will also drive improvement action plans to realize lithium Global Business Unit (GBU)-specific sustainability goals around natural resource management aligned with the Albemarle corporate sustainability approach.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
  • Enable global STARS team of 100+ members in targeted engagement strategies by organizing & coordinating team to ensure consistent progress on identified lithium sustainability and advocacy initiative actions.
  • Assist internal and external customer inquiries on ESG by providing market differentiation materials (primarily PowerPoint presentations)
  • Support global mining sites; Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) self-assessments and audits as well as global conversion sites {Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI), Risk Readiness Assessment (RRA), Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP), and Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) self-assessments and audits}
  • Support of government advocacy initiatives around lithium and the Electric Vehicle (EV) value chain and review funding/grant opportunities for early identification of threats & opportunities
  • Collaborate with the corporate sustainability team for Natural Resource Management activities and aspirational goals to Energy Storage GBU specific improvement plans (product & site level)
  • Coordinating, reporting and KPI tracking for Energy Storage STARS team.
  • Reporting on lithium issues flagged and monitoring platforms.
  • Entering government & community contacts/communications in the stakeholder platform
  • Support Energy Storage sustainability strategy planning including Annual Operating Plan, 5-year long range plan, benchmarking against competitors and customers, and continuous improvement of the product portfolio.
  • Advocate for improvement action plans to and strive towards GBU and company Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
  • Develop lithium sustainability commercial materials for training, influencing, and advocating to internal & external customers, engaging employee awareness of lithium sustainability efforts.
  • Leverage Voice of the Customer (VoC) input to drive investment opportunities for market differentiation.
  • Team with lithium site operations and project teams to meet customer lithium sustainability requirements while mitigating risk, optimizing operations, and innovating to maximize profitability.
Education and Experience required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years of relevant operational experience. Prefer sustainability, engineering, business, or communications degrees.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of common software programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; Ability to learn new web-based systems.
  • Fluency in English
