Asphalt experience preferred, but not required.

Operate a variety of hand and power tools, set forms, cast in place concrete, and operate light construction equipment. This position may be assigned to any division as needed in Public Works.

$24.80 - $31.38 per hour plus benefits (see benefits tab on the job posting)

This range encompasses the nine pay steps available should you receive the position and demonstrate satisfactory performance over time. The pay is normally $24.80 per hour.

• Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation of asphalt patching, light construction equipment, machinery, trucks, and hand tools. This position will be required to perform manual labor.
• Must have a basic knowledge of road construction/maintenance procedures and perform work with little direction to aid in the efficient and effective completion of the project or assigned task.
• Required to be on call 24 hours for emergency/weather response.
• Must be able to follow instructions from senior employees.
• Must perform work in a courteous and safe manner and maintain working relationships with co-workers.
• When contact with the public is required, the employee must maintain a courteous, helpful attitude.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Required Experience:

• Working knowledge of concrete and road construction.

Required Certificates/License/Registrations:

• Valid Colorado Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement required or the ability to acquire Class A with tanker endorsement within 6 months.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Must be able to pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical.

Must have a demonstrated proficiency in 2 of the following areas:

• Front end loader
• Tandem axle truck
• Backhoe (smaller than a John Deere 510)
• Compaction Equipment
• Skid Steer

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must have a basic familiarity with and experience working with a variety of road construction, maintenance and repair equipment and materials.

Valid Colorado Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement required.
