As a Quality Assurance Engineer at our Kingsport, TN manufacturing plant you will be
responsible for conducting daily activities of the Silgan Closures Facility Quality Lab, which include but are not limited to automated and manual metrology of plastic and steel products and tools, as well as execution of test protocols as defined by Silgan Closures Quality Systems Documentation.

What you'll do:
Utilize continuous improvement tools for organization, documentation and problem-solving
Using statistical tools (e.g., process capability, Design of Experiments, SPC, etc.) assist manufacturing and suppliers in evaluation and optimization of manufacturing processes and products
Perform part inspection utilizing the appropriate tools and equipment. Create reports summarizing results and methods utilized
Define and execute the requirements for gauging and inspection methods for instruments utilized with frequency in the lab
Assist in the maintenance and calibration of QA lab equipment
Assist in the maintenance of SQF Quality Systems
Assist problem solving efforts and projects as required by the Plant QA Manager
Automate quality inspection processes to reduce manual intervention
Actively works in and manages facility processes with relation to OEM systems and Product Hold for Inspection (HFI) inventory as needed
Will provide appropriate leadership and accountability for managing the Quality department, including all laboratory activities and requirements
Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to plant management

What you'll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Plastics, Packaging or related Engineering field preferred
Experience with GFSI schemes or Quality Systems preferred
Preferred experience in Six Sigma (minimum green belt certification), Project Management including Gantt charting, continuous improvement concepts, and/or industry recognized quality-based certifications
Effective use of MS Word and Excel
Strong verbal and written communication skills, management skills
Knowledge of Food Safety procedures and requirements
Familiar with HACCP preventative controls and risk analysis
Familiar with OGP inspections systems to include programming and troubleshooting ability
