Position Purpose

Job Summary: This person will perform moderately complex, non-repetitive, managerial/ technical duties relative to the administration of the Plants Quality Assurance (QA) and Food Safety(FS) Programs. Supervises and maintains an effective QA functional team to assure that the products produced are safe, wholesome, and meet stated requirements. Assists the QA Manager in planning directing and coordinating the efforts of the QA and FS functions toward the accomplishment of plant and corporate objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Assign, supervise and coordinate the work of QA staff as directed by the Quality Manager for maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Assures food safety requirements, regulatory compliance and company policies are achieved. Assures product quality is at targeted levels.
  • Maintains all records as required by company policies, and regulatory agencies.
  • Participates in quality/cost improvement projects, problem solving activities and communicates recommendations.
  • Trains QA staff in all phases of existing and new QA standards, procedures and applicable FSIS, AMS and FDA regulations.
  • Motivates, develops QA staff to allow for career progression and effective, optimum deployment of their accountabilities.
  • Maintains communication with plant senior management and supervisors.
  • Prepares and submits periodic reports as required.
  • Prepares for and represents the company during all related audits.
  • Trains production staff regarding quality standards and product specifications.
  • Ensure that all Health, Safety ,Environmental and Human Resource policies are met within the QA department.
  • Assist in managing the pathogen lab and associated responsibilities such as supplies and maintenance of lab equipment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Reviews HACCP, SSOP, and GMP documentation
  • Assists in formulation of responses and follow through on remedies all HACCP, SSOP, and Non-Compliance Records.
  • Audits filing system to ensure proper record keeping.
  • Processes and investigates all HR, Safety and payroll issues of Associates.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and practical use of a computer to communicate, research, analyze data and present information.
  • Extensive understanding of HACCP, SSOP, GMP, and all USDA and FDA Regulations.
  • Practical understanding of processes and procedures used in the Poultry Processing Industry.
  • Good communication and problem solving skills.

Education and Experience:

  • BS Degree in Food Science preferred or related field or the equivalent in training and experience.
  • Three years of practical experience.

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • On call
