We are searching for an ARK Staff Supervisor to support the Amos Rehabilitation Keep (ARK). The incumbent of this role will play an integral part in overseeing day to day staff duties within the ARK. They will also play a key role in assisting with continued innovation on the standardized operating procedure for staff and volunteers, and work to foster an incredible working environment for all.

The Marine Science Institute is a part of the University of Texas at Austin College of Natural Sciences and is notably the most significant marine science research facility on the Texas coast. UTMSI is internationally recognized for its academic programs and research. Purpose

To provide supervisory support to the staff within the Amos Rehabilitation Keep. Will assist in the innovation of new standardized operating procedures for staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Aide in the continued development of daily operating procedures of all process and procedure preforms in the ARK. Attend to resident animals and animals brought into the ARK for rehabilitation. Includes handling, housing, preparing diets and feeding, administering appropriate medications, and providing clean and sanitized cages, tanks, and animal quarters. Keep track of ARK animal rehabilitation progress, weighing, measuring, and recording data.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to ARK staff.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, management, volunteers, and the public at all times. Answer and document telephone inquiries about rescues, refer calls to supervisor as needed.
  • Maintain and innovate on record keeping strategy for all animals handled at the ARK into logs, including admittance data, transfers, release data, and outcome. Maintain treatment files for all animals receiving care at the ARK.
  • Monitor, supervise and develop standard operating procedures for daily ARK volunteer activity, provide needed tasks to volunteers, and delegate accordingly.
  • Monitor animals including those that may be isolated or quarantined for signs of illness or unusual behavior.
  • Participate in educational events, tours of the ARK, and public releases as needed.
  • Perform physical examinations and diagnostics to determine and evaluate health condition of wildlife at the time of admission.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of animal care experience or RVT, LVT, or CVT Veterinary Technician Certification and three years of animal care and handling experience.
  • Highly detail oriented with outstanding organizational and time-management skills. A self-starter with the ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
  • Professional demeanor. Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and respond to faculty and staff tactfully, clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute constructively to a team environment.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and systems quickly.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of animal care and handling experience
  • Experience in a supervisory role within an animal care facility

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$40,000 - $45,000
