Job description
Schedule: PRN Hours available, day shift, rotating weekend, holiday, and on call schedule
Reports To: Radiology Supervisor
PRN position available. Weekday coverage including rotating call schedule
Position Summary:
The primary purpose of the Radiologic Technician is to obtain satisfactory radiographs by following established procedures and standards, and as directed by the Radiology Supervisor, to assure that the highest degree of quality care can be maintained at all times.
Essential Job Functions:
- Operate x-ray equipment to make radiographs of designated portions of the body under the supervision of a radiologist. Perform other related duties.
- Obtain bun and creatinine results from the laboratory before performing IVP’s.
- Develop films by automatic processing. Maintain automatic processor by performing densitometry and sensitometry, and taking daily temperature of solutions. Perform preventative maintenance on the processor by maintaining proper quality assurance.
- Assist in maintaining an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the radiology department.
- Transport patients to and from their rooms on the nursing floor.
- Assist Radiologist with difficult radiologic procedures.
- Brief patients of procedures involved in radiology and reassure them before and during the radiology examinations.
- Prepare proper contrast media when needed.
- Assure permission sheet is signed by patient when administering contrast medias.
- Assist in maintaining radiology standards.
- Ensure that patient rights to fair and equitable treatment, self determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint, are well established and maintained at all times.
- Perform general technical duties. Make minor adjustments to equipment. Perform non-professional duties such as maintaining a clean environment in the radiology department, to include dusting, cleaning, and sanitizing the bathroom and the adjoining dressing rooms, proper maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
- Maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility.
- Maintain an excellent working relationship with the medical profession and other health related facilities and organizations.
- Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient rights are protected.
- Ensure business office receives charges for radiology services rendered to patients.
- Notify Patient Services as to the type of radiology examination that was performed (outpatient, emergency room and ambulatory surgery).
- Make weekly check to ensure that all supplies and drugs are not out-dated. Notify the Radiology Supervisor when supplies are being depleted.
- Assist in maintaining the safety regulations for the department to ensure that both patients and hospital personnel receive maximum protection from the hazardous effects of roentgen rays.
- Assist in cleaning automatic processor on a regular basis as requested by the Radiology Supervisor.
- Prepare and maintain records and files as directed.
- Maintain the files in the vault, by straightening and organizing films by pulling outdated films to make room for future films.
- Assist in training new employees.
- Assist in performing first aid as necessary.
- Attend and participate in seminars, continuing education, etc., to keep abreast of current charges in radiology, as well as maintain a professional status.
- Take call rotation, when necessary.
- Perform secretarial duties of the radiological department.
- Act as supervisor in the absence of the Radiology Supervisor.
- Correlate information and data to aid in Quality Assurance studies.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Must be able to obtain satisfactory radiographs by following set procedures and standards.

- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.
- Must be able to work efficiently and effectively with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to work beyond normal working hours including call back.
- Attend and participate in continuing education programs.
- Maintain communication with medical staff, personnel and other supervisors.
Education/Experience/Knowledge:
- Must possess a diploma or certificate showing the satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training in an AMA approved school.
- Must meet the requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Must possess knowledge of radiology procedures.
Physical Requirements of the Position:
- Mobility and ability to stand throughout the shift.
- Bend, reach and lift throughout shift.
- Ability to safely use all respiratory equipment for which trained.
