Overview:
Under the supervision of the Saddle Rock Barn Manager the paddock
assistants are responsible for the general care, feeding, watering and
stall maintenance of horses and stalls assigned within the saddle rock
program, including but not limited to: ensuring consumer safety,
implementing all aspects of the activity schedule, and advocating for the
needs of the consumers.

- Provide for the health and safety of the consumers.
- Mediate emergency situations pertaining to the program according to established policies and procedures,
and ensure communication of such situations in a timely fashion. - Provide coverage until relieved in emergency situations.
- Treat each individual with dignity and respect in accordance with New York State regulations and Agency policy.
- Report possible violations of individual's rights promptly, and complete and submit incident reports in accordance with New York State regulations and Agency policy.
- Maintain the confidentiality of any information relating to the individuals and staff of the program.
- Ensure that the consumer's needs are met and intercede on their behalf as necessary.
- Participate in any investigation into incidents occurring within the program as requested and maintain
- confidentiality in regard to such investigations.
- Cleaning horse facilities – stalls, aisle areas, paddocks, yard, tack rooms, etc. and ensuring that muck
buckets on property are dumped. - Responsible for cleaning and filling water – stalls and paddocks as needed.
- Responsible for reporting any illnesses, injuries, lameness, general farrier needs in boarded or program
horses to Barn Coordinator, Maintenance Manager, or Program Director. - Responsible for reporting any necessary emergency veterinary and farrier care to Barn Coordinator,
Weekend Manager, Maintenance Manager, or Program Director. If none of these managers can be
reached, staff is responsible to call boarder or veterinarian/farrier directly. - Responsible to carry out any necessary equine first aid or ongoing treatments as directed by Barn
Coordinator, Weekend Manager, Maintenance Manager, or Program Director. - Assist in preparing lesson horses in the case of last minute changes, large groups of riders or day staff
shortages. - Assist in maintenance and care of lesson tack in coordination with Barn Coordinator.
- Keep field office clean and neat, empty garbage, and take garbage to street.
- Responsible for safe turnout and bringing in of all horses – including use of throat latch on halters and
closing driveway gate during these times. Responsible for securing gates if on property before 8:00am or
after 5:00 pm. Ensuring that there are no injuries or lost shoes. - Responsible for addressing or reporting any unsafe activities to Barn Coordinator, Maintenance
manager, or Program Director. - Interact with boarders regarding barn policies and horse care in a polite and professional manner.
- Responsible for daily care (feeding, water, paddock care, etc.) of other farm animals such as cats, goats,
donkey, etc. on weekends and non-day program days. - Monitor/work with consumers in horse care activities to ensure a safe and productive experience for the
consumer and the horses.
