Key points of the position:

  • Intermediate experience level in critical manufacturing tasks within one or more of the following product lines: slack adjuster, hand brake, empty load device.
  • Compliance with the Company’s safety, environmental and performance standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Main responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned, per business needs):

  • Safety: Demonstrates awareness of safety requirements in assigned work areas and wears appropriate PPE for assigned work. Contributes to continuous improvement of safety culture in work areas. Able to follow detailed disassembly processes that encounter significant mechanical hazards.
  • Quality: Completes material inspection and preparation for reconditioned components. Performs this work with limited oversight. Effective and consistently uses gages for requalification of reconditioned material.
  • Production: Completes assembly and disassembly tasks in one or more manufacturing product lines as assigned. Performs this work with limited oversight.
  • Verification: Completes disassembly, testing and inspection tasks to ensure product conformance for reconditioned material. Performs this work with limited supervision. Accurately reports in writing the quantity and description of returned material.
  • Continuous Improvement: Completes work in compliance with established standards, including process conformance and standard cycle time.
  • Training: Accepts training and coaching from supervision. When working with other technicians, actively advocates for safe disassembly practices. Completes Powered Industrial Truck training and passes operating test.
  • Environment: Participates in environmentally-appropriate workplace maintenance habits, including 5S. Manage effective disposal of lubricants from reconditioned material and safe handling of agitating wash chemicals. Ensures appropriate storage of material to maintain Amsted Rail’s compliance with stormwater permitting.

Education / Training / Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED or international equivalent preferred.

  • Vocational or technical training, such as automotive repair or mechanical assembly, where proper use of hand tools was required (pneumatic impact tools, hammers, wrenches, and special tools) is required in preparation for detailed disassembly tasks with critical safety implications.

Qualifications:

  • General dexterity and proficiency in handling complex disassembly tasks while ensuring personal safety.

  • Capability to use hand tools safely. Capability to operate power tools safely, as assigned.
  • Visual differentiation of acceptable and unacceptable mechanical condition of parts.
  • Physical performance of tasks as determined by team leader.

Certificates / Licenses / Registrations / Competencies:

Must successfully complete training and licensing for Powered Industrial Truck operation.

Languages:

English language functional communication required.
