JOB SUMMARY:

The Recreation Therapy Assistant is responsible for assisting the Recreation Therapist in the implementation of a Therapeutic Recreation Program. The Recreation Therapy Assistant provides recreation therapy and play needs to infants, toddlers, adolescent, and young adults.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates degree in Recreation Therapy, BA in Child Development or related psychosocial field preferred
  • Registered as a Recreation Therapy Assistant - Registered (RTAR) with the State of California is preferred
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Minimum of one (1) years experience as Recreation Therapy Assistant or in the field of Child Development Inpatient rehabilitation experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, techniques and equipment used in recreation therapy
  • Must possess good work ethics and a professional image at all times
  • Knowledge of CMS conditions of participation, CDPH state regulations, CCS, and TJC (hospital, nursing care center, and laboratory) accreditation requirements as applicable to job
  • Working knowledge of computer and software applications as applicable to job
  • Possess strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Works responsibly in a team environment as well as independently
  • Manages confidential information effectively and appropriately

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY:

A. Support to the Recreation Therapist

  • Assists with assessing patients and develop a plan of care within 72 hours of admission under the direction of the Recreation Therapist
  • Leads the Recreation Therapy groups under the direction of the Recreation Therapist
  • Provides 1:1 activities for patients and group activities under the direction of the Recreation Therapist
  • Plans and conducts inservice training for staff under the direction of the Recreation Therapist as assigned
  • Schedules patient sessions and activities under the direction of the Recreation Therapist
  • Assists with documenting daily activities and weekly summaries on patients progress notes under the direction of the Recreation Therapist
  • Assists with maintenance of equipment and supplies for the Recreation Therapy program
  • Assists with special events

B. General Duties Patient Care Area

  • Ensures that the recreation/ leisure and play needs of the patients are met and maintained on an individual basis
  • Completes posting of the Recreational Therapy activity calendar by the first of the month in the Activity/Dining room
  • Coordinates the activity schedule with other patient services.
  • Participates in the interdisciplinary care plan meeting for patients receiving reactional therapy as assigned
  • Assists with outing activities for patient
  • Obtains consents from physician, legal representative and/or parent prior to patient outing activities
  • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct, hospital policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations
