Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.We are in search of new talent in the following position…
Position: Recreation/Vocational Coordinator (WEB716)
Summary:
The Vocational/Recreational Coordinator is Responsible for the overall management of recreation programs and for developing and implementing vocational services to formerly homeless adults in residence.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree in a human service field and three years of appropriate experience, or satisfactory combination of education and experience.
Supervisory Role:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Principal Responsibilities:
The below enumerated principal responsibilities are inclusive of both program specific and firm-wide related administration, as applicable.
1. Completes intake for Supportive Employment Program clients and develop Individual Service Plans for these clients.
2. Identifies appropriate educational, training, and work experience programs for residents and refer residents to appropriate services.
3. Supervises the Work Incentives Program.
4. Manages Supportive Employment program charts.
5. Develops and supervises recreational activities for residents.
6. Recruit and coordinate volunteer activities, prepare monthly volunteer report.
7. Perform other related duties as requested.
Expected Results of Principal Responsibilities:
1. Client employment and recreational goals and objectives are met.
2. Positive community linkages are maintained which provide access for all clients and a positive image of the program.
3. Selected clients are receiving valuable onsite experience and stipends.
4. Charts are current and accurate.
5. Recreational activities are conducted regularly at site in accordance with agency standards.
6. Volunteers opportunities are provided at site for members of the community and proper documentation of volunteer activities is maintained.
7. All other related tasks are completed on time and accurately.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee will be in an office and residential shelter environment.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to have visual acuity, talk and hear while communicating with peers and/or vendors. This position requires sitting, standing and reaching. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items up to 20 pounds.
