JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant is a member of the interdisciplinary medical team of Family Health Center of Southern Oklahoma, Inc. He/she is responsible for patient referrals, Patient Assistants Program (PAP), Breast & Cervical Program, and assists in Insure Oklahoma enrollment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Receives financial information.
• Responsible for Patient Assistance Program (PAP) such as counseling for qualification, ordering and distribution of PAP medication, weekly updates
• Assists all providers with establishing referral appointments as well as obtaining results.
• Responsible for documenting if appointment was kept or following up on reasons for cancellations.
• Schedule appointments for non-employed contracted physicians
• Attain all insurance pre-certifications and prior authorizations for private insurance and Medicaid.
• Responsible for scheduling referral appointments for all providers as well as making sure orders are sent with referral, follow ups are scheduled, and making sure the reports are attached to the consults.
• Assist physician when urgent problems come up with patient
• Responsible for sign ups on Take Charge program as well as scheduling their appointments, taking Pap tests to Health Department, follow ups, and relaying information to the billing department when complete.
• Responsible for sign ups on Breast & Cervical program such as assisting the patient in signing up, setting up appointments, and patient contact
• Assist patients on sign-ups and renewals for Insure Oklahoma.
• Participates in designated activities and projects for PCMH as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer.
• Follows the Mission/Vision statement.
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School graduate/GED.
• Personal maturity, cooperation, dependability, and initiative required.
• Must show strong interest in working with a team and culturally diverse patient population.
• Previous clinical experience preferred.
• Ability to use computer (experience preferred in Electronic Medical Records and Word Processing software).
• Appropriate math and written and oral communication skills.
• Be able to demonstrate problem solving skills via the chain of command.
• Basic Life Support Certified preferred.
