The Admissions Nurse assesses human responses and plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for individuals or families for whom the nurse is responsible. As an integral member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, the Admissions Nurse utilizes comprehensive nursing skills and knowledge in providing direct patient care. The Admissions Nurse assures compliance with all Hospital policies, procedures, guidelines, and requirements set forth by regulatory bodies regarding quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Assists the Director of Admissions in the coordination of the Admissions Department and ensure procedures and admissions are running smoothly. Assure compliance with all hospital policies and procedures and regulatory and accreditation requirements regarding quality assurance, safety, environmental, infection control, and with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Create and maintain health information in accordance with all applicable laws, standards, and hospital policies. Maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA, federal and state drug and alcohol statutes and other applicable regulations.

  • Obtain full health history including reviewing previous encounters, prescription monitoring systems and healthcare exchanges. Review all information from the referring agency. Any accompanying information from prior assessments or treatment that conflicts with the information gathered during the current admission process must be clarified and/or addressed.
  • Using a strengths-based assessment approach, thoroughly complete all VFMC initial biopsychosocial assessment tools assigned to nursing. The assessor must determine ‘why’ or ‘why now’ is the patient is presenting for help.
  • Use motivational interviewing techniques during the initial interview and nursing assessment.
  • Document and present information in a manner that facilitates third party payer certification process.
  • Any historical or current symptomatology that is of clinical significance or that is out of the ordinary, including the presence of pain, substantial weight gain or loss, and/ or risk factors for falling must be addressed per policy.
  • From all the information obtained during the biopsychosocial assessment, initiate the Recovery Summary Sheet and document in the EMR. Performs all indicated drugs screenings and diagnostic tests (12 lead EKG, UDS, Fen Strips, BAC, Vital Signs, etc.) at the time of admission.
  • Identify individualized problems, interventions, and goals for the Recovery Plan. Carry out nursing care actions, in accordance with physician orders, which promote, maintain, and restore the well-being of individuals. Involve individuals and their families in their health promotion, maintenance, and restoration.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the quality of nursing care provided.
  • Understand and adhere to standards of practice and professional codes of behavior, as developed by appropriate nursing associations as the criteria for assuring safe and effective practice.

Deliver clear, accurate, and accessible documentation as an essential element of safe, quality, evidence-based nursing practice.

  • Assist with Admission Process in EMR as needed.
  • Offers general administrative support.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current PA Professional Nursing license in good standing and current CPR certification required. Additional mental health or addiction treatment education and or experience are helpful.

Pay: $38.00 - $39.00 per hour
