General Statement of Duties:

The Registered Nurse Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) establishes a friendly, efficient, preoperative process for patients having surgery at OrthoIndy Hospital facilities. The PAT RN coordinates and evaluates preoperative screening for assigned patients in a timely fashion by performing physician ordered pre-surgery testing on-site (EKG, lab draws, etc.). The PAT RN also completes health assessments on patients, RISK tools for OSA, cardiac, VTE, nutrition, case management, pre-Covid screening, education on blood clots, hydration, infection prevention, etc.). The PAT RNs are cross-trained to cover the PASS (Pre-Admission Surgery Screening) clinic when needed by calling patients prior to surgery to review medications, pre-surgery instructions, etc.

Essential Duties:

  • Monitors and assesses patient condition and reports any unusual symptoms, occurrences or discrepancies to appropriate Physicians and manager.
  • Provides care safely, with adequate quality, quantity, and timeliness and according to applicable standards. Sets-up, operates and/or monitors the use of various systems, equipment and instrumentation required for the care of patients.
  • Collaborates with Physicians to provide results, review complex or unclear medical information and documents all interactions in EMR. Maintains complete communication with Physician and peers regarding requests and scheduled appointments.
  • Initiates indicated patient care plans. Ensures plan of care reflects the patient needs. Provides instruction, information, and counseling to patients and their families as needed.
  • Obtains complete medical history and retrieves records as indicated. Responsible for daily review of requests, faxes, and completed clearances.
  • Responds to telephone inquiries promptly, screens calls, and provides information to patients and staff as needed.

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • Registered Nurse license in the state of Indiana required
  • BLS certification required
  • 2-4 years of related experience required, 4-6 years preferred
