Job Summary:

Supports the AML/BSA Compliance Department by coordinating governance functions including policy updates and enhancements, program and desktop procedure reviews and revisions including unit guidance and workflows. Conducts annual gap analysis against Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council's (FFIEC) updates. Researches and ensures adherence to new FFIEC policy and regulations. Provides routine reports to senior management and advises on regulatory matters. Fulfills annual and ad-hoc requests from Correspondent Banks, Federal Reserve Bank (FRB), and Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT). Maintains the BSA Compliance home page on Synovus' intranet insite as well as published communications. Works with Corporate Communications to ensure compliance changes are communicated. Manages the daily Customer Identification Program (CIP) function to ensure compliance with regulatory expectations including oversight and maintenance of the CIP database, completing daily workflows and assisting business partners who onboard customers with clearing exceptions in a timely manner.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports and maintains BSA/AML/OFAC policy management activities at the department level. Tracks changes to policies accurately and archives older versions. Manages thorough change control protocol for retention purposes. Compares policy changes to published and desktop procedures for accuracy and change control maintenance. Works with senior management and enterprise governance team to garner approval from the Board of Directors. Assists with presentations to keep all team members apprised of procedural changes.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate log of all program and desktop procedures. Creates flow charts for a high level overview of processes. Manages thorough change control protocol for retention purposes. Interacts with senior managers to finalize and publish approved versions as required
  • Works with Synovus Learning and Development partners for accurate content on insite's Policy, Forms & Procedures (PFP) page. Ensures review timeframes are met to produce accurate documentation for audits and exams. Conducts gap analysis of procedures against FFIEC published guidance. Provides support for audit and exam requests related to procedures. Serves as administrator for PFP documentation. Ensures timely and accurate communication as procedures are updated.
  • Prepares and maintains the standard Wolsberg Correspondent Banking Due Diligence Questionnaire. Coordinates updates to the BSA program letter on the Synovus Internet. Works with other line-of-business stakeholders as required to produce accurate answers to requests from Correspondent Banks
  • Responds to annual and ad-hoc requests from Correspondent Banks and audit/examiner requests for timely documentation. Updates, publishes and maintains SWIFT Know Your Customer (KYC) administrative rights documentation. Aproves other financial institutions who participate in SWIFT in accordance with applicable criteria.
  • Monitors the automated CIP monitoring system on a daily basis. Provides accurate reporting and escalation of policy and CIP violations. Ensures automated emails are generated and works with relationship managers to clear exceptions when noted. Validates closures and maintains escalations to appropriate management as necessary. Completes monthly reporting metrics and maintains the internal database logic. Partners with Internal Controls to produce testing scripts and content control documentation as applicable.
  • Responds to law enforcement documentation requests related to confidential SAR filings. Verifies requests and requestors to ensure sharing of information is authorized. Maintains accurate and thorough log for retention. Refers customers mentioned in request to Financial Investigations Unit (FIU) for full investigation. Maintains monthly metrics for production reporting. Participates in audit/exam is it relates to requested information.
  • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

  • Four years of AML/BSA, consumer or regulatory compliance experience including support of policy and procedure reviews/updates, fulfilling regulatory agency and/or law enforcement requests, reviewing suspicious activity, interpreting OFAC sanctions risk or other similar compliance support functions. Completion of college coursework may substitue for experience on a year for year basis.
