Remote Option - Substation Civil Engineer


Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

POWER Engineers is currently seeking an experienced, energetic, self-starting team member with a strong civil engineering background to perform engineering design activities for electrical substations. This position will be with our Substation design teams out of our Power Delivery Substation Department located in the southeast region. This includes departments in our Atlanta, GA, Ft. Mill, SC, Orlando, FL and Richmond, VA locations. Flexibility is available to work remotely, hybrid and/or in the office. Home residence is preferred to be in GA, FL, SC or VA with consideration for locations in NC, TN and WV.

Responsibilities

  • Leading other engineers, designers, and drafters and self-performing all aspects of electrical substation civil design including permitting support, site design, roadway design and grading design.
  • Development of civil construction specifications, cost estimates, etc.
  • Coordination with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design.
  • Constructability of electrical substations.
  • Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements.
  • Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients.
  • Support Project Manager and Project Engineer with project reporting needs.
  • Support proposal development.
  • Support the mentorship and training of other team members.
  • Shall understand and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.
  • Occasional travel will be required.

Required Education/Experience

  • BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering) degree from an accredited college.
  • 4 + years civil design experience.
  • Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and size.
  • Proven ability and desire to mentor and help others.
  • A strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel

Desired Education/Experience

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) or more years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Experience in foundation design, structure design, and control building design are not required, but would be beneficial.
  • Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plus.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, RISA, MathCAD, LPile, and Civil 3D are beneficial.
  • Geotechnical background is a plus.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
  • Professional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure and ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.
  • Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules.
