Job description

Stratas Advisors is immediately seeking an analyst for its biofuels and decarbonization services with excellent analytical and research skills. Strong communication skills as well as the ability to work independently within a team are critical to this role.

This role will conduct research to inform quantitative forecasts on the biofuels and broader renewable fuels industry in the North American market, including the detailed workings of the major regulatory frameworks and their compliance credits. Research tasks will include gathering, cleaning, and analyzing market data as well as detailed information on new technologies, industry trends, and economics, among others. The analyst will be able to review the gathered information and assess the key takeaways and implications, provided to clients through research products, licensable models, and bespoke consulting engagements. The ideal candidate should have work or academic experience in a related field, strong independent work ethic with a collaborative approach and exposure to economic modeling/analysis.

Stratas Advisors offers a competitive benefits package, 401(k) plan, 21 Paid Time Off (PTO) days, 14 paid holidays, flexible work schedule and much more. This position allows for fully remote work from anywhere in the US.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, collect, and analyze data/information on biofuel industry developments (predominantly focused on North America but will include work on other regions), including supply & demand growth, regulatory/policy changes, developments by competitor, production economics, and trade implications of shifting supply/demand between countries.
  • Develop and provide industry-leading expertise on the US Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and California Low Carbon Fuel Standard, and related regulations and mandates in North America.
  • Model and forecast low carbon fuel markets at the country level, including supply/demand, blend levels, prices, and regulatory assumptions, incorporating learnings from analysis of the market environment. US modeling/forecasting will include significant emphasis on RFS RIN balances and prices, the California LCFS and similar for other regulatory credits.
  • Products covered will include ethanol, biodiesel, renewable diesel, renewable natural gas and other biofuels, as well as the agricultural (and other) feedstocks they are derived from. Moreover, the work will include research on e-fuels, hydrogen and the impact of electric vehicles. The analyst will also become familiar with the gasoline/diesel/general road fuel markets.
  • Support efforts to streamline overall data gathering and handling for the renewable fuels services, and help coordinate data and information sharing with other teams within Stratas Advisors.
  • Provide both analytical support and market insight for strategic consulting engagements on an ad hoc basis.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree and/or work experience (in lieu of advanced degree) in engineering, economics, energy, data analytics, or forecasting is a plus.
  • Experience in an analyst/research role at a consulting firm, operating company, financial institution, or academic institution with a focus on the energy industry, mobility, renewables, batteries, and/or related analysis.
  • Strong quantitative skills are critical. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office suite applications is also required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving/critical thinking skills.
  • Basic understanding of the energy industry including some familiarity with fuel technologies, battery technologies, renewable energy, supply chain, industry trends, and/or regulatory environment.
  • Understanding of general economics and familiarity with international markets.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities such as consulting is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel for business on an occasional basis (less than 10%).
  • OPTIONAL: Spanish, Japanese and/or Portuguese language skills are a plus.
