Position Summary :

Erikson Institute, a leading graduate school in child development, is seeking to hire a Research Assistant (RA) with the Herr Research Center’s home-based child care (HBCC) research team. Dr. Juliet Bromer directs policy relevant research projects that highlight the strengths of home-based child care professionals and their equitable inclusion in early care and education systems. The RA will help with data entry, cleaning, and coding of both qualitative and quantitative data on a project related to developing evidence-based resources for the HBCC field on promising practices around network development and implementation.

This part-time (10hrs/week, flexible) position is expected to run from October 2022 to December 2023. This position is contingent upon availability of grant or contract funds. If the funds from the grant or contract that provide funding for this position are no longer available, this position may be terminated without cause upon written notice. This position can be fully remote or hybrid in-person in Chicago, Illinois. This position is well-suited to current graduate students with previous research experience, who apply an equity and justice lens to their interest in early childhood research, policy, and/or practice. Duties and Responsibilities
Research Duties
  • Attending regular project meetings via Zoom and communicating consistently via email
  • Entering, cleaning, and coding qualitative and quantitative data
  • Maintenance and management of data files, including adherence to policies regarding the handling/storage of research data and materials
  • Supporting the preparation of study products, including presentations, reports, policy briefs, and journal articles as needed, with opportunities for co-authorship

Qualifications
Required qualifications
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and management skills
  • Ability to work independently and with groups
  • Computer literacy including word processing, email, and videoconferencing
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, administration, early childhood, human development, public policy, public health, human services, or related field
  • Training in basic research methods and/or prior research experience
  • Experience interacting with economically, culturally, and linguistically diverse communities
  • Willingness and flexibility to occasionally attend evening/weekend meetings as needed

Preferred qualifications
  • Experience cleaning and coding quantitative and/or qualitative data using a variety of software programs
  • Prior knowledge of early childhood education, child care, and family policy
