Research Assistant/Associate Position in Infectious Disease (Tuberculosis)
Texas Biomedical Research Institute in San Antonio, TX, is searching for an enthusiastic, organized, and skilled full-time Research Assistant/Associate. The candidate will be working on individual experiments and as part of a research team.
The Role:
Essential duties are (i) successful completion and implementation of BSL3 and ABSL3 work practices to produce data from Mycobacterium tuberculosis infected hosts; (ii) basic data quality control, quality assurance, and analysis of data; (iii) assistance with manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed publication. Specific projects include ongoing collaborations with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY); Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem, NC); the Jackson Laboratory (Bar Harbor, ME); and Texas Biomedical Research Institute. The candidate must possess strong skills in laboratory management and organization; communication; and be self-motivated to learn and implement new knowledge and methods.
Our Ideal Candidate:
• Strong organizational skills;
• Laboratory bench experience with sterile techniques such as cell culture;
• Biosafety level 2 (BSL2) microbiology assays including bacterial culture and tissue culture, and immunology assays (flow cytometry, ELISA);
• Prior experience with rodent experimental handling including infections, delivery of compounds by different routes, and necropsies involving tissue harvesting and processing;
• Prior experience and/or willingness to successfully complete biosafety level 3 (BSL3) and animal biosafety level 3 (ABSL3) training specifically to for pathogenic Mycobacterium tuberculosis;
Our Ideal Candidate:
• MS in Biological Sciences or fields related to infectious diseases, immunology, and microbiology;
• Computer skills and basic statistical and graphical methods for biological data;
• Experience in sterile techniques;
This position is a 2-year NIH grant-funded position with the possibility of extension.
