The Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to execute early discovery of novel antibodies and protein engineering of biotherapeutics for encoding into Moderna’s mRNA technology platform. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated capacity to function in a fast-paced laboratory environment with cross-functional teams.

Here’s What You’ll Do:
Execute experiments in the lab to discover and characterize novel antibodies in support of programs in the Next Generation Biotherapeutics Group.

Culture mammalian cells and select cells using FACS-Sorting techniques.

Work with automated assay systems.

Execute basic molecular biology, cell transfections, PCR and understand expression vector design.

Capable of computer driven sequence alignments and primer design.

Perform in vitro assays to characterize cell lines and engineered proteins for example: ELISAs, FACS, Western blotting, and cell proliferation assays.

Express, purify and characterize proteins using mammalian expression systems.

Determine protein binding affinities using techniques such as FACS, OCTET and Biacore.

Learn to use formulated mRNA to express molecules in vivo and in vitro.

Write protocols, maintain notebook with detailed account of experiments

General laboratory responsibilities including lab equipment maintenance, preparation of reagents, and the ordering and receiving of lab supplies.

Closely collaborate research group members both within and outside the company in support of therapeutic programs

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
BS/BA in biology, biochemistry, or other related discipline

Lab experience with mammalian cell culture (cell lines and primary cells).

Hands on experience with cell-based assays.

Laboratory experience in basic molecular biology skills.

Capable of designing and execute a variety of protein characterization assays.

Ability to write protocols and analyze data.

Strong communication skills and interest in doing lab work, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.

Experience with operation of FACS and/or FACS cell sorting.

Ability to execute general molecular biology techniques, PCR, primer design, transiently transfect and express proteins in 293 cells.

Able to design and execute protein characterization experiments.
