Position Title: New Iberia Research Center: Research Associate, Pre-Clinical Technologist 2

Responsibilities:
In conjunction with the Research Coordinator the Research Associate, Pre -Clinical Technologists 2 will assist in the planning, directing, and coordinating of research assignments. The employee will instruct the activities of research associate, per-clinical
technologists 1, and laboratory technicians engaged in research projects to ensure compliance with study protocols. The Research Associate, Pre -Clinical Technologists 2 will contribute to the training of personnel, documentation, planning and facilitation of basic and applied research in nonhuman primate animal models.

The Research Associate, Pre -Clinical Technologists 2 will be responsible for performance and documentation of scheduled task performance in compliance with research protocols developed for PHS funded research protocols, university researchers, pharmaceutical and/or biotechnological sponsors. Employee will use advanced knowledge gained through training and experience to assist in diversified dose administration, sample collections, test system observations for assessment of effect of test article in use. The employee will develop protocol specific forms, conduct studies using standard and consistent work practices, ensure documentation and performance of applicable study activities as defined by protocol, SOP and regulations as applicable.

Employee must be capable of making informed, independent decisions to assess the complex living environment and behaviors of NHPs during biomedical non clinical in life studies and will effectively communicate with other applicable personnel to ensure husbandry, veterinary, and behavioral needs of study subjects are met. In addition, the Research Associate will troubleshoot procedures, and utilize professional judgment in confirming, reporting, and documenting abnormalities if applicable (including but not limited to unexpected or untoward responses to test article, variances from normal species specific behavior, signs of illness and/or distress).

The Research Associate, Pre -Clinical Technologists 2 will train subjects for alert dosing and sample collection procedures utilizing primate product restrainer system. Employee will use specialized equipment, perform preventative maintenance and calibration as required for data generation, and record results obtained concurrent with performance of measurement.

The Employee will demonstrate the ability to adapt to various study environments and Animal Laboratory Biosafety Levels as applicable; utilizing work practice, engineering controls and personal protective equipment in manner consistent with facility Biosafety and Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure Control Manuals, and perform tasks in manner to minimize risk of cross contamination of study area, test articles, and subjects.

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent with scientific emphasis and a minimum of four years’ experience in a research facility and/or veterinary/animal care facility as a lead worker, supervisor, and project lead (or equivalent) is required. Advance knowledge in a field of science to independently conduct protocol mandated research procedures in nonhuman primate animal studies in an AAALAC-accredited facility required. AALAS Technician certification (or equivalent is preferred).

Five years’ experience in a contract research setting, assisting in conduct of research protocols may be substituted for the Bachelor of Science degree.
