Job Description:
- Conduct all clinical and clinical research activities according to standards of good clinical practice, JCAHO guidelines, NDCD research protocols, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Assess patients’ physiologic condition upon admission/intake, throughout inpatient stay or outpatient visit, and upon discharge/exit; planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting care provided, per protocol requirements and standards of good clinical practice.
- Provide cardiac monitoring, including echocardiograms (ECGs) and/or rhythm strips when necessary, and/or as directed by protocol.
- Administer drugs via route ordered, documenting in medical records and on any applicable NIDCD - provided case report forms in appropriate places.
- Observe patient reactions to drugs by using subject behavior, known facts about drugs in study, and experience to assess benefit and response. Report adverse drug reactions to the NIDCD Principal Investigator and NIDCD Clinical Director in accordance with IRB and hospital policy.
- Start and maintains intravenous (IV) and/or angiocath heparin locks. Draw blood as necessary for clinical and research needs. Dispose of used materials in accordance with OSHA, JCAHO, and hospital procedures.
- Collaborate with the NIDCD Clinical Director and NIDCD Scientific Director, NIDCD scientists and NIDCD unit physicians and others in implementing protocols on unit.
- Act as a member of the research team, delivering direct patient care, and reporting and documenting observations orally and in writing as necessary to NIDCD Principal Investigators, or NIDCD Clinical Director.
- Keep Clinical Director informed of the progress of protocols and any problems on the team.
- Contribute information during the evaluation process of team members.
- Assist in preparing or reviewing reference material with NIDCD investigators for the development of NIDCD research publications. Review manuscripts and papers derived from protocols in which they were involved for content and errors
- Have a graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program.
- Have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or you obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN.
- Possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
