ABOUT US

Transition Projects connects individuals with the services, resources, and tools they need to end their homelessness. Our team of over 350 assists more than 10,000 people each year at 14 different sites in the Portland metro.

• On any given day, we help meet the basic needs of more than 500 people experiencing homelessness through our Resource Center.
• On any given night, we provide a safe place to sleep for more than 800 people with nowhere else to turn.
• In any given year, we help place more than 1,000 people into affordable housing – and then support them in retaining that housing.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Residential Advocate

Supervisor: Shelter Manager

Location: Multiple locations available – see below for specifics

Hours: Shifts Vary – see below for specifics

Wage: $20.25/hr (shift differentials available for swing and grave shifts)

Classification: Non-exempt, union represented, benefit-eligible at 20 hours per week, shifts vary (see individual job descriptions by clicking on the corresponding links)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Residential Advocate provides advocacy, information, and referral services to participants staying in shelters. This position oversees the shelter facility in a manner that is consistent with Transition Projects mission, values, policies, and procedures and actively participates in shelter processes and work as part of a team to provide services to participants. YOU MAY BE A GOOD FIT FOR THIS POSITION IF:

You have a passion for helping others, are nonjudgmental, and are able to deal with difficult situations in positive and constructive ways. It is helpful for this position to understand the issues surrounding homelessness, chemical dependency, mental health, domestic violence, and sexual assault. One-year of experience in social services is preferred, and experience working with homeless/low-income population is helpful. Knowledge of services available to low-income and homeless persons through Transition Projects and other agencies, or the demonstrated ability to obtain such knowledge is also greatly valued.
