The Residential Learning Coordinator (RLC) is a professional member of the Student Life staff, who actively promotes student learning in the residence halls while enhancing the quality of life for students living on campus. Reporting to the Director of Residential Life, the RLC is a 12-month position that serves under the general auspices of the Dean of Students Office, which includes Residential Life and Housing, the Counseling Center, the Health Center, and the Student Conduct and Support office.

The RLC is responsible for the day-to-day residence hall operation. Duties include the hiring, training, and supervision of student paraprofessional staff; providing leadership for safety and security initiatives; responding to and managing personal and environmental crises and emergencies; supporting and counseling students with welfare and development concerns; developing independent and collaborative programs designed to enhance the residential learning experience; advising of student governance and judicial groups; promoting student learning and the creation of civil, respectful communities; and monitoring the various facility aspects of a university residence hall. It is expected that the successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity and the ability to work with individuals or groups from diverse backgrounds.

Major Responsibilities:

• Supervision & Student Support
• Programming & Community Development
• Provide leadership for safety and security initiatives in the residence hall
• Promote student learning and the creation of civil, respectful communities
• Monitor the physical condition of the residence hall environment
• Coordinate collateral assignments and projects and serve on departmental and University committees
• Coordinate the general administration and operation of the residence hall
• Select, train, supervise, and evaluate student employees, while also managing the day to day operations of a residence hall, including crisis and emergency response
• Supervise 8-12 Resident Assistants and 10-15 hall desk attendants
• Includes providing ongoing guidance, advisement, and individual training/skill development for Resident Assistants, along with schedule evaluations and when necessary, accountability strategies
• Serves in a collateral project for the Student Life division for 10-15 hours per week

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Master’s Degree in college student personnel, or closely related field
• Previous significant experience in residence life is strongly preferred
