The Southeast Area On Grounds Adult Residential Program is seeking a talented individual who can fill the role of Mental Health Worker III/MAP (Medication Administration Program) Specialist on our day shift. This individual, functions in a direct care role with added duties of providing support and supervision to staff regarding MAP duties.
Please Note: This position is 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will work the Day Shift from 6:45AM-3:15PM. Days off; Tuesday and Wednesday.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Acts as MAP Specialist for the 3rd shift assuring that DPH and DMH policies for a MAP Certified Program are implemented and followed. Coordinates care, implementation and documentation of medication administration consistent with MAP policies and procedures. Files and reports all medication occurrences as required by MAP policy and seeks consultation from the MAP Director and Program RN, MAP consultant, as needed.
- Works as primary advocate by providing direct one to one contact with assigned person served to assist them in all areas and to aid them in the implementation of their Community Service Plan.
- Assist person served in development of independent living skills, such as personal hygiene, cooking, housekeeping, clothing maintenance, and nutrition by utilizing motivational interviewing skills and counseling techniques, role modeling and/or other individualized or group best practices to promote person served growth.
- Engage persons individually and/or in group, in the development of recreational, educational, health and fitness activities within the program and the community to foster an improved quality of life.
- Promote emotional growth and mental stability by assisting with use of Safety and Crisis Plans to promote independence in managing crises.
- Provide an oral report to the oncoming shift; reading and writing all pertinent information in the log and communication with person in charge all required and necessary information to facilitate communication and provide for continuity of care.
- Ongoing yard, house and vehicle maintenance, and cleaning to ensure that the condition of Group Live Environment (GLE) site/yard meets Rehab Option, Licensing and Human Rights standards.
- Maintain and environment of respect, privacy and quality of service to uphold the rights of persons served.
Required Qualifications:
- Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in providing direct care service to the mentally ill, emotionally or physically handicapped
- Ability to maintain MAP certification.
- A valid Massachusetts Driver’s license or equivalent required for this function.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Supervisory experience
- MAP Certification
Special Requirements:
In accordance with an agreement between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Mental Health and AFSCME/Council 93, employees assigned to a work unit where the Medication Administration Program (MAP) is used are required to pass MAP certification within 6 months of entering the position or 3 examination opportunities, whichever comes first. Employees are required to maintain MAP certification as long as you are working in said program.

On Grounds Program is part of the Taunton/Attleboro Site that transitions clients from an inpatient setting to a more independent community living setting. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in providing direct care service to the mentally ill, emotionally or physically handicapped, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's degree or higher with a major in psychology, human services, mental health or retardation may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*
- Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
