Title: Response Coordinator – PFAS
$29.00 - $43.28 / Posted Thru: 3-21-23
Location: Remote/Virtual - Must Live In Michigan
Occasional In-Person Meetings at Lansing, MI Office Required
Purpose: The Response Coordinator - PFAS is responsible for overseeing operations of MDHHS staff working on PFAS sites and serves as the primary liaison between the DEH’s leadership team and PFAS site operations staff. This individual will work closely with project managers, lead toxicologists, and community education staff, to ensure a continuity of operation among the various units working in the PFAS operations program. This position sits within the Toxicology and Assessment Section which is a part of the Division of Environmental Health, Michigan Department of Health, and Human Services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and maintain a functional continuity between the various technical staff involved in the day-to-day activities within the PFAS Site Operations program
- Identify and delegate work requests based on understanding of need. Determine and designate appropriate actions on behalf of the senior leadership; identify and establish response deadlines for actions.
- Initiate, coordinate, schedule, facilitate, prepare agendas, track follow-up actions, and document meeting action items.
- Meet weekly with project managers and lead technical staff to review project timelines, address operations barriers, and plan for future needs.
- Track project implementation metrics for multiple projects and provide weekly updates of PFAS Site Operations’ activities to MDHHS leadership.
- Provide information to senior leadership that is used for budgeting purposes.
- Recommend changes to improve programs, policy and/or practices.
- Model and train staff on the approaches to problem solving, decision-making, and communications with internal and external partners.
- Review technical reports, budget narratives, memos, and other site related materials.
- Serve as a liaison between MDHHS PFAS Site Operations and Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART).
- Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, a master’s or Ph.D. in a related field is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of four years professional experience required. Prefer candidates with at least five years’ experience with relevant work experience in at least one of the following areas: research administration, project management, report writing, management, complex study design, or public health administration.

- Proficient in and demonstrable knowledge of MS Office preferred (word, excel, ppt); database and data collection tool knowledge a plus (Access, REDCap, SQL).

- Ability to interpret complex instructions.
- Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Basic understanding or willingness to learn scientific principles, practices and procedures of toxicology, epidemiology, and biology.
- Strong cultural competency and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in an environment with diverse cultures, multiple perspectives, and competing needs.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: The employee may transport supplies to clinic locations. Items and supplies can be bulky and weigh up to 40lbs. Requires a valid vehicle operator’s license and occasional travel within the state, including overnights. Less frequently, travel may be required outside of the state.
