Job description
Retention Specialist will work closely with the Employment Specialist to ensure that participants linked with jobs are supported through any challenges they may experience. He/She will assist clients in thinking about long-term employment goals, work history, strengths, and other factors that may affect their current career goals. The Retention Specialist is also responsible for keeping of track of the progression of all successful participants.
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Build relationships with businesses, community based organizations, and agencies that are willing to work with graduates of the program
- Ensure that participants are linked to opportunities and work to provide support so barriers that occur are address
- Conduct job development and job search activities geared toward positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of the clients on their caseload
- Maintain ongoing contact with employers to keep track of progress and challenges arising from existing placements
- Maintain ongoing contact with participants after internship or job placement
- Successful participants will be tracked and supported for 180 days after they have completed the Enhanced Program
- Collect documentation as related to career goals
- Provide in-person support during the first month of a new position and at least monthly after working steadily as desired by clients
- Assist clients with developing the proper social skills and work habits
- Educate clients about how their benefits may be affected by earned income
- Educate clients regarding the choice to disclose one's disability to the employer
- Participate in relevant departmental meetings, trainings, case conferences, workshops and events
- Other duties in keeping with the scope and nature of the position
REQUIREMENTS:
- Fully vaccinated against covid-19
- High School Diploma/GED, required. Associates Degree in Human Services, preferred.
- Experience working with DHS, and providing direct service to populations impacted by HIV/AIDS, mental illness, substance abuse and homelessness is required
- Experience with employment services and/or workforce development, preferred
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be flexible and be willing to travel to various locations
- Proficient at using all Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
