Job Summary:
The Director of Risk Advisory is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the operational risk framework. The Director will have governance and oversight responsibilities across various aspects of risk management services including the Risk Advisory team. The Director requires proficiency in risk management practices, strategic thinking, and leadership to execute, maintain and enhance a best-in-class operational risk management program across Hilltop Holdings (“HTH” or the “Company”), thus helping the Company achieve its objectives, establish industry best practices, and comply with regulatory guidance. The Director will work closely with executive leadership and department management of HTH and its subsidiaries in a collaborative environment. The Director leads the Risk Advisory team in providing independent and objective risk management services including but not limited to risk metrics, operational loss analysis, and risk assessments. - Continuously innovate the Corporate Risk program to ensure appropriate governance and effectiveness to fit the Company’s size, culture, and regulatory environment.
- Partner with the Corporate Risk leadership to share best practices and methodologies and maintain a comprehensive risk program to identify, evaluate, monitor, and report risks.
- Continuously grow and maintain key business partner relationships to leverage and enhance risk information, provide a deeper understanding of risk drivers and root cause analysis of issues.
- Develop and maintain support for the Company’s risk appetite statement, corporate risk policies and standards, and the risk assessment framework.
- Monitor Company’s risk-taking activities, policies and business objectives to ensure alignment with the Company’s risk appetite statement.
- Oversee the implementation of ORM risk management technology tools, practices, and policies to analyze, manage, and report risks according to the framework.
- Provide key inputs for the Operational Risk & Strategy Committee, sub-committees, or working groups, as well as other risk committees as defined by HTH leadership.
- Lead efforts to compile clear, accurate and timely risk analyses, data and operating dashboards / reports for senior management, the Board of Directors and other appropriate parties highlighting trends, breaches, high priority risks, and remediation activity.
- Create an environment of risk awareness and promote appropriate risk behaviors for the Company through awareness and adoption of the risk management methodology and framework.
- Assist with the professional development of Risk Advisory staff in the pursuit of department objectives by building risk awareness and providing support and training.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of relevant line of business processes, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage, lead or participate on certain critical projects or initiatives, as defined by Corporate Risk leadership
- Manage relationships with external / internal auditors and regulators.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or another business-related field required
- 10+ years of relevant work experience or education (e.g., graduate degree) specific to risk management or related field and preferably with financial institutions
- Proven risk leader working within or consulting with a $10B+ institution in the ERM and/or ORM fields.
- Proven experience conducting and executing risk assessments, assessing the adequacy of policies, procedures, processes, risk events and control activities in a large and complex financial services company.
- Proven experience developing key risk indicators and key performance indicators.
- Comfortable with change, working in a fast-paced environment and building from a limited reference point
- Demonstrated ability to lead change through influencing skills, be a positive change agent, broker compromises and meet deadlines
- Excellent management and project management skills and the ability to motivate teams and drive performance
- Exhibit a strong executive presence and articulate complex concepts in a clear and concise manner in various forms; written reports and verbal presentations
- Experience with effectively interacting and communicating with senior leaders and regulators
- Experience in developing and documenting governance processes
