  • POSITION SUMMARY - the shift hours are 6:30 am - 3 pm or 7 am - 3:30 pm. On Call expectation!
    • Delivers care to patients and families with needs ranging from basic to complex utilizing the nursing process. Creates a therapeutic and caring environment for patient and families. Practices in a manner consistent with the Elliot Hospital Inter-professional Practice model; the ANA s Social Policy Statement, Scope and Standards of Practice, and the Nursing Code of Ethics; American College of Cardiology & Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions under the direction of the Cardiovascular Services Clinical Nurse Manager and the Cardiovascular Services Medical Director.
  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Assists in diagnostic & interventional cardiac catheterization procedures as well as diagnostic & interventional vascular procedures and other cardiovascular procedures, including, but not limited to, cardiac device implantation & electrophysiology studies/ablations, transesophageal echocardiograms & electrical cardioversions.
    • Performs emergency procedures associated with catheterization procedures such as IABP insertion and temporary pacemaker insertion.
    • Follows established standards and practices under the direction of a credentialed cardiologist, electrophysiologist, interventional radiologist or surgeon.
    • Completes pre-procedure assessment based on patient/family interview, examination and review of clinical data; communicates patient status and patient needs to physician and other team members as part of procedural process.
    • Recognizes emergencies and changes in patient s condition and seeks assistance as appropriate.
    • Participates in the peri-procedure care of patients with complex problems/or undergoing complex invasive procedures.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in performance of procedures in the cardiac cath lab and recovery area; provides effective delivery of patient care pre, intra and post procedure delivery.
    • Demonstrates knowledge regarding use of medications including emergency drugs, critical care medications, moderate sedation and reversal agents.
    • Operates cathlab hemodynamic monitoring & recording system to assure complete and accurate analysis of waveforms, values & other functions specific to the system.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of radiation safety and the use of contrast media.
    • Provides emotional support to patient/family by communicating effectively to decrease discomfort, anxiety and distress.
    • Communicates appropriate patient information effectively and efficiently within the health care team and at each hand-off/ care transition.
    • Acts as a cardiovascular resource for students, team members, and colleagues within the healthcare system.
    • Assists if needed in other areas of the cardiovascular service line.
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
    • Critical thinking and ability to effectively manage emergent patient situations.
    • Proficiency at cardiac rhythm interpretation & hemodynamic monitoring.
    • Working knowledge of formulae used to calculate gradients, shunts, and cardiac outputs.
    • Ability to work independently & take initiative in completing tasks.
    • Demonstrates superior customer service skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage a variety of tasks.
    • Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
    • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing strongly preferred.
    • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of critical care experience.
    • Certification/Licensure: New Hampshire Registered Nurse or Compact State Registered Nurse License. BCLS, ACLS required. Nurses are expected to pursue professional certification upon eligibility or within three years of entering the specialty practice.
    • Software/Hardware: Ability to advance basic computer skills as the health system adds new systems or performs upgrades to existing systems.
  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Schedule: Work schedule may include 8-12 hours per day in addition to On-call status for call coverage when the department is closed. May be required to assume assignments in other areas of cardiovascular service line to meet patient needs.
