Methodist Hospital is home to a 158 acute-care bed facility with 1120 employees 283 medical staff and 29 Emergency Department beds. Methodist Hospital also owns and operates Bruceville Terrace – a 171-bed sub-acute skilled nursing long-term care facility adjacent to the hospital that provides care for the elderly as well as those requiring extended recoveries. Methodist Hospital is home to the Family Medicine Residency Program an accredited and nationally recognized program which provides resident physicians with specialty training in primary care family medicine. Together the hospital and residency program implemented a ground-breaking curriculum addressing the identification treatment and assistance of human trafficking victims and created a one-of-a-kind health clinic for victims the Human Trafficking Medical Home.
As our Labor & Delivery Nurse at Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, now part of CommonSpirit Health formed between Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health, you’ll guide patients through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on the safety of the mother and baby, with kindness and compassion.

Responsibilities
We are offering a $15,000 sign-on bonus to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements.
Position Summary:
As a nurse in this department, you will have varying roles and responsibilities. You may work in Obstetrics - triaging patients or perform screening exams on walk-ins or you may guide patients through a routine induction and delivery. You’re busy monitoring the mother’s dilation progress while also keeping close watch on the baby’s fetal heart rate. You'll be coaching mom as the baby is delivered and providing updates and support to the patient’s partner and loved ones.
To thrive in this role, you’ll need to appreciate that routine is never routine. We have some wonderful days in this department and get to be with people through huge milestones in their lives. We also have some hard days and are with people as they grieve. You must be sensitive and understanding to different circumstances. Above all else, you must remain calm in an emergency. A patient’s status can change quickly and it’s never good for the patient or family to see the nurse in a panic. You’re calm. You’re in control. You’re handling the situation.

The L&D Registered Nurse provides, coordinates and directs care to individuals and families in the family birth center using a holistic approach. The nursing process is used as a structured mechanism for critical thinking and problem solving in providing effective and appropriate care within a safe and confidential environment from admission to discharge. Each RN is responsible for collaborating with members of the healthcare team, providing leadership, personal/professional development, and conducting him/herself professionally.
Responsibilities include:
Triage walk-ins to determine if a patient is in labor, water is broken, false alarm, etc- Support pregnant patients in labor including induction, epidural assistance (if needed), general pain management and fetal monitoring
- Assist and circulate in the operating room for cesarean sections, tubal ligation, cerclage and emergency procedures
- Educate patients on various interventions or procedures - medications (name and purpose), exams, and labor stages
- Assess newborn and provide care.
- Communicate with the care management team, including anesthesiologist, physician or midwife, lactation nurse, charge nurse, postpartum unit, patient and family

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience as an RN in Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby within an acute care setting required
- Current California RN license in good standing with the Board of Registered Nursing
- Current Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required (must be certified through the American Heart Association)
