RN New Grad / RN Residency Program – September 2022
Dignity Health St Bernardine Medical Center
Overview:
The New Graduate Residency Program features a challenging program, blending classroom didactics with clinical experience and unit socialization. This program is for recent graduates of RN programs who have graduated within one year prior to the start of the program and who have not previously worked as a registered nurse or interim permittee.
Purpose:
The purpose of the program is to foster a successful transition from student, to the role of RN and to facilitate the New Grad to develop personally and professionally within the auspices of a caring and collaborative environment to become a competent nurse in the acute care setting.
Details:
- The program is minimum 12 weeks depending on specialty.
- First six weeks, nurses will be required to attend four days per week of classroom and unit-based training (two 6-hour days of classroom and two 12-hour days of unit-based training per week).
- During week seven, nurses will complete 36 hours with different specialties to promote inter-professional collaboration and understanding.
- Beginning week nine, the nurse’s transition to complete unit-based training with their preceptor, on their hired shift, for the remainder of the program.
- Completion will be based on 100% validation of competencies during your clinical hours.
- Attendance for the entire training and clinical rotations are mandatory.
Application Requirements:
- Current resume.
- College transcripts from nursing course work (non-official is sufficient).
- American Heart Association BLS, ACLS Certifications (Must Be Completed Prior to Start Date).
- California RN License required for application-or must have test proof of NCLEX date scheduled.
- California RN License required prior to 7/31/2022, when offers will be finalized.

Qualifications
RN New Grad Requirements:
- Completion of an accredited RN school of nursing within 1 year from the start of program (September 2022)
- No previous experience as a RN or interim permitted.
- CA RN License.
- Current AHA BLS certification required prior to start of program.
- Chemo Cert within 1 year after hire
- HBOC computer training within 6 months of employment in the position
