Safety Captains partner with work location leadership and Loss Prevention/Safety Department to oversee the health and safety program for the work location. They will also serve as a member of the Safety Committee, actively reviewing and enforcing all safety policies, procedures, and activities at the assigned work location.
- Enforces all safety policies and procedures and ensures they are being followed throughout the worksite; reports noncompliance
- Leads daily stretching/warm up exercises
- Conducts emergency drills; reviews and reports results; performs quarterly ergonomic assessments
- Ensures that all shelter postings and evacuations routes are current and posted throughout the facility
- Conducts daily safety checks throughout the facility; identifies, corrects and removes hazards
- Performs monthly audits and reviews checklists for general safety and lighting
- Ensures that all required reporting, including safety checklists, are completed by designated deadline
- Conducts a site walk through and ensures the safety acknowledgement is completed for new employees
- Attends monthly/quarterly safety meetings/conference calls; relays information to appropriate individuals and implements new initiatives
- Oversees inventory and distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) for the worksite; maintains first aid kit, safety and PPE inventory
- Conducts toolbox talks ad updates facility staff on important safety information
- Updates and maintains site safety documentation; maintains all safety related binders and boards
- Serves as site contact for accident/incident reporting; works alongside site supervisor(s) to investigate and report incidents/accidents
- Ensures ADA compliance at worksite; assists with accessibility surveys
- Ensures EPA/OSHA compliance with all workplace chemicals including donated chemicals
- Reports violations of the stewardship policy
- Assists the Loss Prevention & Safety Department with investigations; performs video audits (e.g., openings and closings, employee purchases, and voids and returns)
- Participates in all required training including bloodborne pathogen, hazard communication, chemical management, ergonomics, general safety, electrical, lockout/tagout, walking/working surfaces, report writing, fire safety, and emergency preparedness
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for the completion of job duties
- Demonstrates leadership and positive role modeling for staffs at worksite
- Communicates the organization’s mission, vision, values and promotes diversity
- Builds trust by interacting with others in a way that gives them confidence
- Contributes to the implementation of change management efforts
- Effectively manages time to ensure that work is completed
- Requires high school diploma or equivalent
- Requires no corrective actions within 90 days of application (verbal warning or higher)
- Works in a light industrial/warehouse environment with exposure to heat and cold
- Subject to exposure to allergens including dirt, dust, mold, metals, rubber, plastics, latex, and pet hair
- Requires ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Requires ability to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, lift, reach, carry, push and pull as well as perform other physical requirements applicable to the work area
- Pushes and pulls carts and z-racks weighing a minimum of 150 pounds
- Stands for long periods of time throughout the day
