Job Summary: All Positions Availiable!!! This is a full time Safety and Security Officer position which provides fire protection for patients, staff and visitors. It directs the enforcement of Interim Life Safety Codes, Fire safety inspections, ensures compliance with all rules and regulations from the State Fire Marshall Office, CMS. This position performs numerous duties and assignments in support of hospital operations. Telephone operator, 911 operators, conducts searches at the Admissions, First Responder duties, de-escalate physical confrontations, operates the hospital Visitor Center, serves as an Admissions Clerk when coverage is needed, escort patients, conducts physical security inspections of all 50 hospital buildings, assists nursing with administration of patient meds, patrols grounds, enforces traffic codes, maintains hospital Operations Log, and other duties as assigned by supervisor. It reports to the Shift Supervisor and acts as a Fire Responder for any/all emergencies.
Job Description: Inspects Hospital buildings in accordance with National Fire Protection Association 101 (Life Safety Code), and State Fire Marshal’s Office to provide a safe and secure therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Implements corrective actions for deficiencies found during the inspections of buildings, fire trucks, fire hoses, fire extinguishers, and other related firefighting equipment. Conducts and observes fire emergency preparedness drills to provide for safety of patients, staff, and visitors of the Hospital. Observes evacuations of buildings and records and reports times and problems. Provides training for staff of firefighting equipment, and building evacuation procedures. Responds to fire emergencies and assists in firefighting activities. Actively seeks to maintain proficiency in firefighting techniques. Performs drills on fire truck operations, emergency operations, first responder duties, evacuation techniques, physical and psychological first aid, search techniques and ladder operations. Responds to requests for assistance with combative patients to prevent injuries to patient, staff, and others. Requests additional officers respond if the situation escalates. Requests a Code II be announced over the Public Address System if additional staff is needed to assist. In many cases, high stress tolerance must be maintained by an officer. Officer must be skillful in helping resolving conflicts, and must be able to work collaborative with others address System if additional staff is needed to assist. Stand by at the Admissions Office for assistance to prevent injuries to patient and staff. Officers must be empathic of new arrivals as this may be the first contact with this hospital, and it is important to project a positive image. Transports patient to ward area following admission. Accounts for patients’ personal properties, and prohibited properties in accordance with pertinent Hospital Procedures. Code enforcement of all Visitor policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to perform physical labor, climb stairs, lift and move a minimum of 75 lbs., work from a ladder, work in small enclosed areas, perform essential firefighting duties, and provide safety and security protection to patients, staff, visitors of this hospital. The work environment may include a certain amount of discomfort and moderate physical exertion. Work requires officers to be inside and outside buildings and vehicles in adverse weather conditions. Involves considerable sitting, standing and walking. May be required to work long hours during emergencies and in providing shift coverage. High School Diploma or equivalent. This position requires an approved drug screen test. Valid Kansas Driver’s License, other than motorcycle.
Preferred: Some firefighting experience.
