Job Title: Safety Specialist
Department: Corporate Safety
Reports to: Safety Manager
General Job Summary
The Safety Specialist will be responsible for assisting our Leadership Team with the continuous improvement, development, and management of Company safety programs. This position will partner with all Department Managers and Safety Leaders to assist them with injury reduction by improving site specific safety programs, conducting training, implementation of safety policies and procedures, conducting safety assessments, investigating incidents, and facilitating regulatory inspections. This position will leverage their experience to assist our Leadership Team with the management of our Injury & Illness Prevention Program to ensure Cal/OSHA compliance while building a proactive safety focused culture.
Essential Functions: Job Duties and Responsibilities %
Function

- Works closely with our Safety Leadership Team to facilitate compliance with our Safety Participation Program.
- Supports all departments in compliance of our Injury & Illness Prevention Program, our Cal/OSHA Partnership plan; conducts inspection assessments, incident investigations, assists with Cal/OSHA compliance, and works with site leadership team to address improvement opportunities.
- Completes and submits documentation on safety related items such as inspections, investigations, invoices, & assigned reporting in a timely manner.

- Conducts safety training, safety program assessments, and incident investigations at all locations.
- Maintains Intelex reporting up to date.
- Facilitates on-site regulatory inspections as needed.

- Assists in managing our Pressure Vessel Permitting Program including permit tracking, coordinating inspections, new vessel installations, and corrective action item tracking.
- Assists in managing our Process Safety Management programs.
- Assists our Contractor Safety, Vetting, & Risk Management Program including program reviews and conducts compliance audits.

- Coordinates medical surveillance programs with the Safety Manager and Company First Aid Provider.

- Assist Managers with development and review of Safety related procedures such as but not limited to; LOTO Equipment Specific Procedures, equipment operation procedures, emergency evacuation maps, Fall Arrest and Confined Space Rescue System design & inspections, compliance of NFPA 70E, and provides engineering solutions for workplace safety and ergonomic improvement opportunities.
Requirements: Education, Knowledge, Training, Skill, Experience, Ability
Education and Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Health or Environmental preferred other applicable fields will be considered.
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Must have 5 years experienced managing Cal/OSHA GISO, AgSO, and/or CSO compliance. Experience with DPR and DOT compliance is a plus.
- Experience with PSM, PHA, WPS, and NFPA 70E, Fall Arrest and Rescue, Confined Space Entry and Rescue is preferred.
- Must have experience conducting in-person training in English and Spanish.
- Must have a good driving record that meets Company Driver Safety Policy requirements.

Work Environment – characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job
- This job operates in a professional office environment and includes outdoor responsibilities. While performing some duties the employee may work around pesticides, chemicals, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and will be exposed to temperature around 110 degrees during summers or cold weather during the winters. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Frequent travel in a company vehicle between Corcoran and Bakersfield is required.

Frequent Activities (5 – 10 hours daily)
- Constant standing and/or walking while conducting safety inspections, investigations, or trainings.
- Constant sitting while working in office settings and/or driving to various locations.
- Constant work in outdoor high heat summer and/or cold temperatures during the winter while conducting safety inspections, investigations, or trainings.
Occasional Activities (Up to 5 hours daily)
- Lifting objects up to 50 lbs while moving and/or assembling Confined Space Rescue System, canopies, ladders, misc. boxes/supplies while conducting training or performing work related tasks.
- Unloading boxes/supplies into storage container when receiving shipments.
- Climbing tall stairways or ladders to access plant equipment up to 70’ tall such as cooling towers, evaporation systems, lint slides, storage tank tops while conducting safety inspections, investigations, or training.
- Physically able to enter and exit Permit Required Confined Spaces by their own abilities while conducting safety inspections, investigations, or training.
- Physically able to operate mobile equipment such as vehicles, forklifts, manlifts, tractors, cotton pickers, tomato harvesters, pistachio or other equipment while conducting safety inspections, investigations, or training.
