JOB TITLE: Saw Operator

NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 1 – 1st Shift

PAY RANGE: $16.00 – $24.50 per hour. Pay based on qualifications and experience.

Under the direction of and reports to: Machining/Fabricating Supervisor

Job Summary:

• Working in accordance with verbal and written instructions and as assigned by the coordinator or supervisor, cutting carbon steel to specifications. Perform a variety of other duties.

Essential Job Duties:

• Study drawings provided to determine proper sequence of operations, check material for proper size and type, work in conjunction with Steel Stores Attendant to obtain proper material from storage rack or from steel cradle provided.
• Set up equipment such as saws, rod cutter or chamfering equipment to perform the assigned job according to machine manufacturing instructions or recommendation.
• Cut carbon steel to various specifications according to work orders.
• Check pieces produced using tape measures, calipers, steel rules, squares, etc. as required.
• Perform first piece inspection, and if there are any questions contact the supervisor or coordinator, and produce a number of pieces as indicated on the operation sheet.
• Use safety guards and stack pieces onto pallet or other suitable containers.
• Check machine for proper operation, lubricate and clean as instructed and report any malfunctions to supervisor or coordinator.
• Observe all Corporate and departmental safety rules and regulations.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area, sweeping as necessary and depositing drop off and shavings into proper containers.

Physical Demands:

• In an 8-hour day the employee must stand/walk 6-8 hours.
• Must frequently use hand(s) for repetitive movement single grasping, pushing and pulling, and occasionally fine manipulation.
• Must frequently bend, and occasionally twist, squat, and reach.
• Must perform Light Heavy Work, lifting 75 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 40 pounds.

Education/Experience Requirements:

• High School education required.

Typical Working Conditions:

• Located in a factory setting with a large amount of noise and distractions.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at all times for this job description:

• Safety glasses with side shields.
• Steel toe shoes.
• Long work pants.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for occasional activities for this job description:

• Hard hat (where overhead hazards exist).
• Protective gloves (Material handling).
• Safety goggles or face shield (Abrasive disk grinder use).
• Chemical impervious gloves (chemical handling).
• Hearing protection
