Bus Driver

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Transportation

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt PAY GRADE: Bus Driver

LOCATION: Transportation Bus Depot

JOB SUMMARY: Provide safe transportation for district students to and from various destinations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operate vehicle responsibly and safely at all times.

• Complete inspection of the school bus as prescribed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania including clearing obstructions, and wiping lenses of lights. Reports all irregularities to the yard person.
• Maintain student discipline on the bus according to school bus rules. Reports infractions to the Building Principal and the Supervisor of Transportation.
• Maintain school bus routing schedule.
• Safely operate all equipment provided within a school bus, including all doors, windows, emergency equipment, radios, read and understand gauge indicators, operate standard shift and automatic transmissions etc.
• Attend in-service workshops and other department meetings scheduled by the Supervisor of Transportation.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation.

QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) year experience in driving or delivery operations is preferred

High school diploma or equivalent is necessary

Safe driving record required

Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)

Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code)

Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994

Submission of Federal Criminal History Record in accordance with Act 114 of 2006

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to reach above and below the waist

Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects

Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion

Ability to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb, and crawl

Ability to lift/carry supplies weighing 50 lbs. or more

Ability to drive up to eighty percent (80%) of workday

SENSORY ABILITIES: Visual acuity

Auditory acuity

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Ability to work in an external environment subject to temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees

Subject to outside environmental conditions

May be exposed to atmospheric conditions that include fumes and dust

TEMPERAMENT: Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented

Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions

COGNITIVE ABILITY: Ability to follow written and verbal directions

Ability to read and write

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to organize tasks

Ability to exercise good judgment

SPECIFIC SKILLS: Ability to drive a vehicle in a safe manner

LICENSE: Must possess a valid driver’s license and a CDL license

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $23.65 - $24.15 per hour

• Monday to Friday

Experience:

• School bus driving: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• Driver's License (Preferred)
• CDL (Preferred)
