SUMMARY: This position provides and coordinates the health education, information, monitoring, evaluation and services to minimize absences and promote health and safety practices for the students attending the School District.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises, manages, coordinates, prioritizes and schedules the daily Nurse Office functions
- Assists in the planning, implementing and evaluating of health and safety programs in the District
- Coordinates health program activities with community health departments, organizations and agencies involved in disaster planning, health education and health fairs
- Provides classroom health education to promote healthily living attitudes and to meet identified needs related to disease, accidents, congenital defects, psychological, neurological or behavioral problems
- Reviews, maintains and updates student health records and immunizations
- Sends out notices regarding federal and state mandated immunizations
- Prevents the spread of communicable diseases through assessment and implementation of appropriate public health policies; assists in epidemiological investigations by noting trends of students treated for similar symptoms and diseases; provides on site evaluation and skilled emergency care
- Dispenses prescription and over the counter medications per Doctor’s orders or standing orders
- Assesses students sent to office by teachers; contacts parents of sick children
- Provides detection, planning, intervention, treatment management and/or referral for all students
- Provides health education, counseling and guidance to students, parents, teachers and others concerning acute or chronic health problems, first aid, diseases and other health related topics
- Develops, coordinates and conducts annual vision, hearing, immunization and scoliosis screenings, re-checks, referrals and follow-ups
- Completes classroom observations and developmental histories for psychologist and speech therapist
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of District rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of professional school nursing principles, practices and procedures
- Knowledge of medical files and records management regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of supervision, coordination, instructional and monitoring methods and techniques
- Knowledge of care and operation of medical equipment for the screening and treatment of health and injury issues
- Knowledge of customer service methods and techniques
- Ability to speak and read English proficiently
- Skill in providing daily and emergency skilled nursing care
- Skill in detecting, monitoring, managing, referring and coordinating health and safety issues for students
- Skill in developing and implementing health educational programs to meet the needs of students, parents and staff
- Skill in written and oral communications
- Skill in reviewing, maintaining, updating student health records and files
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing or equivalent (BA Preferred)
- Two (2) years public health nursing experience (Preferred)
- AZ State License as a Professional Registered Nurse
- AZ State or National Certification for school nursing (Preferred)
- CPR Certifications
- Criminal justice/Fingerprint clearance
- Maintain requirements for access to Fort Huachuca
Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements
Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Indoor environment. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. May be exposed to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, air and water borne pathogens.
