As a Section Manager, Iron Producing Raw Materials at Cleveland-Cliffs Cleveland Works, you will be responsible for promoting a positive work environment, safe work practices, communication, and teamwork. Responsible for the delivery, storage, and movement of over 5 million tons of raw material annually. Net worth of raw materials managed is over $500 million on an annual basis. Coordination with several outside agencies is vital for continued operations at Cleveland. This will include all river and City port issues. This position will also be expected to learn Iron Producing Operations including Casthouse operations to assist in refractory optimization and for career development (succession planning and promotional opportunities).

Summary of Responsibilities:
Responsible for Raw Material Projects in the Blast Furnace
Focus areas will include dock facilities, trestles, stock houses and general department.
Develops plans and schedules of raw materials with purchasing and materials suppliers operating conditions of furnaces as it relates to raw material quality and makes improvement.
Continuous improvement on projects in raw materials, this is a key cost driver in Iron Producing including taking on projects to streamline raw materials management to automate functions that are currently manual and create dashboards to monitor current raw material positions.
Actively participate in RCM process to support successful implementation of that program at IP.
Responsible for all raw material handling systems and investigates new systems and procedures to lower cost.
Manage Raw Materials inventories to achieve the corporate targets and minimize cash costs.
Develop Process improvement projects, feasibility studies to improve quality and lower cost.
Deal with outside agencies as they relate to transportation issues, including rail, vessel, and truck shipments.
Direct involvement with outside agencies as they relate to various river and port issues.
Work with purchasing and other Cleveland-Cliffs plants to optimize raw material costs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA in engineering or requisite experience in raw materials at a blast furnace or a pelletizing operation
  • 10 years’ experience in Raw Material and supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management or Engineering, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering
  • 15 years of supervisory and Raw Materials
  • Steel mill experience is preferred.
